Product Design Engineer (IDC China)

IDC needs a talented product engineer to join its energetic and expanding Shanghai studio, to be trained and work as a Product Design Engineer

IDC (Industrial Design Consultancy) has a 43-year history in the UK, littered with awards and incredible projects. In 2011, we became multinational with the establishment of IDC China studio situated in the desirable downtown HuangPu district.

In a short period of 4 years, IDC China has grown into a team who is most ambitious about product innovation and known for its Innovation quality in the China market. We focus on the Productisation process and worked closely with locally based multinational and China enterprises to design, develop and launch products successfully to the market.

We have a strong and multinational team based in Shanghai, and we are looking for ambitious and capable Structural Engineer to join us to create together more outstanding products.

The Role

Guided by Technical Director and Project Leaders and our Client Partner, you undertake medical/consumer/industrial product development activities throughout the NPD cycle. Through brainstorming, sketching, CAD and prototyping, you will be responsible for conceiving technical product design solutions and working the concepts up to full engineering detail for manufacture. As IDC China grows, so will you, contributing to the leadership and design guidance of the team. You will be joining us at a really exciting and challenging period of growth, where you will regularly collaborate with UK staff..

You Are:

· Ambitious about innovation, motivated and passionate about exceptional products

· A tenacious problem-solver who is technically and mechanically creative

· Flexible and cross-disciplined with experience from concept to manufacture

· Solid experience working with industrial designers

· Empathetic with users, and experienced in design for usability

· Focused on quality and attention to detail

· Experienced in prototyping, testing, manufacturer liaison and patents

· Confident in presenting your ideas with excellent English essential

· Self-motivated and you effectively manage your time and goals

· (Chinese applicants) ideally with foreign education or working experience

· (Foreign applicants) ideally with China working experience with Mandarin language skills

You Have Evidence of:

· Development of concepts into high quality manufactured product solutions faithful to ID and UX

· 4+ years commercial product design engineering experience, ideally client-facing

· A relevant degree

· Skills in 3D CAD, detailed surfacing, engineering drawings, prototyping and testing for products in plastics and metals

· Skills in manual sketching to presentation standard
