Purpose
Leads efforts of a sculpting team to develop surface for interior and exterior clay or digital models in accordance with engineering and design requirements. Models are scale and full size of proposed corporate products. Aids in design and engineering problem solving while mentoring others in completing assigned tasks. Work involves considerable creativity, skill, perception and coordination and is performed with other sculptors or independently. Integrates new technologies into current work priorities
Areas of Responsibility
- Leads others in the creation and development of new models, use of modeling equipment and application of data to develop surfaces to engineering and design specifications
- Coordinates and tracks job assignments for assigned program sculpting team
- Understands program timelines and is proactive regarding task completion
- Develops physical and digital model creation calendars
- Adheres to and develops common processes and best practices utilizing GM design specific and corporate toolsets
- Attends appropriate program related meetings
- Knowledge of current trends in design, technology, production methods and materials
- Works with minimal supervision
- Mentors others in achieving GVDP modeling standards
- Stays abreast of design trends.
Experience/Education:
- College degree with a major in Industrial Design, Sculpture, Ceramics, or equivalent experience
- Completion of recommended corporate training programs
Skills:
- Creative proficiency with a supporting portfolio
- Excellent understanding of and abilities in line, form and surface development
- "Class A" sculpting proficiency
- Proficiently utilizes modeling equipment
- High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
- High level of oral and written communication skills
- Ability to successfully incorporate engineering criteria into a design theme
- Proficient in Design Center GVDP processes, deliverables, corporate data management and communication systems
Competencies:
Expert command of English is required.
Knowledge of Alias and UG software is required
