Job purpose
This is an exciting career opportunity for candidates who have a passion for China and the North Asia region. Control Risks’ China Corporate Investigation practice is one of the largest within the group. The fast-growing team is made up of people with a broad range of backgrounds and experiences.
We are looking to hire a motivated senior consultant to enhance our leading market position and provide innovative solutions to unique challenges faced by the clients. In this consulting role, the senior consultant will provide investigative and professional advisory services to clients investing and operating in the Greater China and North Asia regions.
Senior consultants are specialists who are able to talk about a service/topic area with authority. Barring direct management responsibility, senior consultants are leaders of the team.
Tasks and responsibilities
Main responsibilities include:
- Confidently managing large or complex due diligence/business intelligence projects.
- Taking the lead in large projects involving multiple departments within the company.
- Interpreting and contextualising complex or highly localised issues to general audiences.
- Managing client accounts (together with other client-facing colleagues) by having frequent interaction with client contacts and in-depth understanding of client businesses. Also, providing advice and strategy on how a particular client account should be managed.
- Acting as the “last line of defence” in terms of project quality control. A senior consultant should send reports after review directly to the client and be responsible for answering questions about the report once delivered.
- Providing temporary management of the team during manager’s absence.
- Uniting the team and providing guidance to junior members. Expected to do more than just project work – should provide leadership and act as an example to junior team members.
- Contributing to overall Corporate Investigations China strategy discussion.
Knowledge and experience
Essential
- Extensive experience in the consulting industry. Proven track record in proposal writing, research and investigation, complex project management, report writing and final delivery/presentation to clients.
- Experience in due diligence, business intelligence, fraud investigation, litigation support and/or similar services.
- Experienced in consultative selling.
- Knowledge of FCPA, UK Bribery Act and other relevant legislation.
Preferred
- Knowledge about China’s social, economic and political environment.
- Experience with emerging markets.
- Knowledge of Japan and Korea.
- Knowledge of financial industry, including investment banking, private equity and hedge fund activities.
- Knowledge of international business, e.g. multinational corporations’ cross-border M&A activities, global capital market, etc.
Qualifications and specialist skills
Essential
- Easy to work with; culturally sensitive.
- A confident presenter, but also a good listener.
- Good report writing skills; strong editing skills.
- Work well under pressure.
Preferred
- Experience living and/or working in Asia.
- Professional certifications in accountancy, legal, finance and fraud detection is strongly preferred
- A second language (Chinese is not essential, but preferred).
