Position Summary:
The Merchandise Manager shares responsibility with divisional Product Managers, Designers and Operations teams to facilitate quality product development, production, cost control, professional sourcing and timely delivery of merchandise.

Reporting
The Merchandise Manager reports to the Managing Director, Shanghai, but maintains a robust partnership and a direct line of communication with the corresponding Product Manager(s) within the selling divisions.

Location
The Merchandise Manager is Asia-based to facilitate intimate and frequent interaction with both raw material and finished goods suppliers.

Position Responsibilities:

General
1. Understand and adhere to Global Sourcing overall strategic direction.
2. Adhere to Exxel Outdoors code of ethics and appropriate posture in all business dealings.
3. Position will require substantial travel, both to supplier locations as well as trade shows.

Merchandising
1. Be knowledgeable of and maintain a wide network of applicable suppliers for the Company’s product lines.
2. Recommend new suppliers when market trends indicate.
3. Be aware of trends in raw materials science and new and emerging sources of supply.
4. Be aware of the community of finished goods factories and which competitors use them.
5. Stay abreast of new and developing methods and techniques of manufacture.
6. Provide input on fabric trends by meeting regularly with manufacturers and fabric mills.
7. Travel in markets, attend trade shows, meet with product teams to become proficient at recognizing what products and/or production and QA processes are uniquely relevant to the company.
8. Assist with identification of raw materials and suppliers that would be consistent with company’s strategic objectives.
9. Function as the primary point of contact with suppliers, managing those relationships to the Company’s benefit.


Production
1. Provide weekly accurate production reports to assure on-time shipment.
2. Communicate on time variances using specified PO reporting process.
3. Respond quickly to vendor and product team requests for information on time sensitive issues.
4. Conduct Pre-Production training sessions with vendors and QA staff relating to all phases of production of products.
5. Train QA staff and implement appropriate measures and reporting to assure the staff is capable of enforcing required quality standards.
6. Assure vendors are complying with requirements for product testing and governmental safety protocols.
7. Participate in QA inline or final inspections as necessary.
8. When necessary, assist to expedite fabrics, trims or other raw materials.
