Position Summary
The Interactive Media Arts (IMA) Program is focused on exploring the expressive possibilities brought about by emerging forms of technology. Through a rigorous project-based curriculum IMA students work with both hardware and software to develop experimental physical and screen-based interactive works. The IMA Lab is where students build these works.
The IMA Lab is comprised of 5 spaces: the General Classroom, the Studio, the Digital Fabrication Lab, the Wood Shop, and the Equipment Check-Out Room.
The IMA Lab Manager position is a FT position. The IMA Lab Manager will work closely with both the IMA Director and associated IMA faculty to oversee and manage all aspects of the IMA Lab to ensure smooth and safe operations for both students and faculty.
Responsibilities
? Manage the Interactive Media Arts (IMA) lab under the supervision of the IMA Director and associated faculty.
? Be responsible for the maintenance of a clean, well-organized, and safe work space during hours of operation.
? Be responsible for the service and maintenance of all IMA lab equipment. This includes:
? The wood shop (includes saws, lathe, sander, drills, etc.);
? The digital fabrication lab (includes \
? laser cutter, 3D printers, CNC mill, PCB mill, and Pick and Place);
? The equipment check out (computers, digital media equipment, hand tools, etc.)
? Supervise and work with IMA students in use of both digital fabrication and wood shop equipment.
? Work with the IMA Director and associated faculty as the liaison for purchasing equipment and components in Shanghai.
? Manage and process paperwork for purchases and maintenance of equipment and components.
? Manage the IMA equipment check-out system. Equipment available to students for check out includes both digital media equipment as well as hand tools and electronics components. Management of the IMA equipment check-out system includes both managing the physical inventory as well as an online management system.
? Supervise IMA student workers who maintain IMA Lab hours.
Qualification
Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Required Experience
3 - 5 years’ experience preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
? Knowledge of traditional wood shop equipment (i.e. saws, lathes, sanders, drills, etc.) required.
? Knowledge of digital fabrication equipment (i.e. laser cutter, 3D printers, CNC mill, PCB mill, Pick and Place, etc.) required.
? Knowledge of electronics and components strongly desired.
? Willingness and enthusiasm to learn new equipment.
? Good command of English and Chinese.
