I. Background Information
Position Title: Vehicle Line Powertrain Portfolio Planning Manager, SGMW Programs
Function/Department: GMIO Powertrain Planning
Location: Shanghai
Required travel frequency: N/A
II. Purpose
Vehicle Line Portfolio Planner's key responsibility is the development and communication of powertrain plans for their assigned vehicles. Work involves interfacing primarily with vehicle team customers through the AVD, VLT structures and JV organizations, and being an advocate for the teams within powertrain. VLPP will lead cross-functional activities, perform executive level presentations, and be the recognized portfolio planning authority in matters related to assigned vehicle programs. The key attributes for success include action orientation, customer focus, high degree of integrity, and strategic and organizational agility.
III. Areas of Responsibility
1. PT plan development for SGMW vehicles
Work with the SGMW JV to develop PT plans that support their competitive and CAFE compliance positions; as well as the Mogu and SGMW export initiatives. VLPP needs to balance the interests of main stakeholders of JV on the PT strategy and to achieve the win-win result for GM and JV.
2. Support the AFS / PT SR / NOD process
Meet the global process requirements to study and finally approve the PT plans for SGMW vehicle programs (including Mogu and export programs). The VLPP first needs to work with GM China and SGMW to provide proper PT inputs (high level PT engineering and capex estimates) to establish the AFS; when AFS gets approved, VLPP should issue the PT SR and take the leadership and ownership to work cross functionally to effectively close the PT SR on time; lastly, VLPP should work with GM China and SGMW to finalize the NOD draft for portfolio approval.
3. Organize SGMW PT workshop and support GMIO & Global leadership review of SGMW PT Plans
VLPP will be the GMIO representative to work with SGMW JV to organize the regular PT/CAFE Compliance Workshop; follow up with the action items; and lead on the identified PT initiative from the GM side. In addition, the VLPP will also facilitate the periodical management reviews at IO and Global forums of the SGMW PT Plans.
4. Support the GMIO MT Planner on SAGW T/M products
Given the unique situation with SGMW and SAGW, the VLPP is also expected to play a strong supporting role to help the Korea-based Regional MT Planner to understand the SAGW product plans and facilitate PT SR related to SAGW transmissions.
IV. Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Competencies
Knowledge:
General automotive knowledge, with special focus on PT products/technologies; China automotive industry knowledge; familiar GM vehicle and powertrain portfolio.
Skills/ Competencies:
- Communications - Develop and present information to all levels of management
- Integrity and Trust - Establish and build relationships with partners
- Dealing with ambiguity; team spirit; learn on the fly; presentation skills; leadership skills; ability to stand up for unpopular positions.
Experience/Education:
- A minimum 5 years' experience with automotive industry; although it's not a requirement, Powertrain related experience will be a plus.
- BS, but MBA preferred, Engineering background will be a plus.
