Job Title: Principle Engineer
Number Required: 1
Working Location: Shanghai

Position Summary
1. This is a position of an engineer with broad and diversified skills with responsibility for the design and support of products.
2. Leads a team on large engineering projects and/or makes high level individual contributions on unusually complex engineering assignments.
3. Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments.
4. Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and represents the organization on important matters.

Organizational relationships
1. May directly lead teams of five or more associates including all disciplines and all levels of engineers and engineering support personnel.
2. Indirectly guides and influences the work of all member of a multi-disciplinary development team to meet the goals of the assignment.
3. Independently represents the organization in relationships with all other organizations throughout the company, with outside suppliers, and with customers.
4. Influences the direction of the company in areas of technical expertise and in overall engineering processes.

Scope of responsibility
1. Takes responsibility for large and difficult engineering assignments.
2. Responsibilities include all aspects of the assigned development projects and assigned products.
3. Assignments could involve responsibility for all engineering disciplines including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and software engineering.
4. Provides technical leadership and expert advice on broad areas critical to meeting the company's goals.

Duties and responsibilities:
1. Participate in defining the product requirements.
2. Develop functional specifications and cost targets for large projects.
3. Translate functional specifications in to design requirements for large projects.
4. Prepare project plans including schedules, budgets, and staff assignments.
5. Evaluate functional specifications and cost targets and develop or approve design concepts to meet them.
6. Lead the project team. Clarify the objectives. Motivate team members. Assess team members' performance.
7. Be the champion for the success of assigned projects and assigned products. Take initiative to assure success.
8. Monitor and report on project status. Present results and recommendations in an executive summary form.
9. Meet the objectives for assigned projects and assigned products including performance, schedule, and cost.
10. As an individual contributor, carry out complex or novel assignments which require the development of new or improved techniques or procedures.
11. Communicate designs in a form that serves the needs of downstream users and reduces the need for non-value added work.
12. Assure the best practices are being applied to assure the success of all assigned projects.
13. Assess the feasibility and soundness of design approaches being used by all members of the design team.
14. Work effectively as a member of a team.
15. Recruit new associates.
16. Coach, mentor and otherwise encourage the professional development of other engineers.
17. Encourage the highest degree of professional development of other engineers.
18. Encourage the highest degree of professional performance and excellence of results in all areas of the organization.
19. Serve as a staff consultant on matters of significant complexity or requiring broad experience.
20. Take the initiative to suggest new architectures and new product concepts.
21. Take the initiative to identify and introduce best practices to improve the productivity of the company and to improve the quality of the work output.
22. Constantly improve development processes by initiating change.
23. Maintain and increase skills in the face of rapidly evolving technology.
24. Use approved processes and procedures to assure the consistent quality of the development process.
25. Use business productivity tools including personal computers and all relevant software.
26. Other duties as required for the success of the company.
Additional responsibilities
1. Use hands-on approach for evaluating prototypes.
2. Travel to work with manufacturing sites, suppliers, and customers.

Special knowledge, skills and abilities:
1. Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or similar.
2. Advanced degrees and/or additional professional education preferred.
3. Creativity, initiative, analytical skills, attention to detail, problem solving skills, teamwork skills, communication skills, organizational skills.
4. Success in progressively more difficult assignments involving technical contributions, project management and team leadership including at least three years at the Senior Engineer level.
