Project Engineer- Function:Tooling and Capex (Equipment)

Work Location in Guangzhou or Shenzhen, deep cooperation with supplier in Guang Dong Province;

Support construction of mental stampling tools in China

SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
SCOPE:
Perform a variety of engineering, customer and supplier support
related tasks in the planning and development of new products.
Tasks are typically semi-complex to complex in nature with
considerable requirement to exercise professional judgment.
Performs a variety of routine project management related tasks to
support the business unit or plant in development of tooling and
equipment projects up to SOP and during the serial process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
. Leads team of project engineers to deliver tooling/equipment
on time and to specification
. Coordinates, develops, maintains, and reports program
timing.
. Prepares, brings about decisions according to quality, cost
and timing.
. Coordinates the development of a system FMEA, as required.
. Coordinates customer and supplier updates as required.
. Defines key dates/timing issues, in support of the Master
Program Schedule.
. Defines the customer technical requirements.
. Defines customer design and performance requirements.
. Obtains customer and supplier prints and CAD data.
. Coordinates activities of multidisciplinary teams
. May interface directly with the Functional Managers to define
the mission of the Team, including milestones, cost targets,
and Design DVP&R status.
. Provides monthly updates to the Functional Managers
through Status Reports.
. Keeper of Open Issue Decks.
. May lead regularly scheduled Team meetings to review
Timing, Open Issues, and Status Reports.
. Maintains the overall “Program Book” and coordinate sign-
off with the Functional Managers.
. Performs semi-complex to complex organizational tasks
within project management.
. Visits nominated and awarded suppliers to Program Manage
all tools and Capex under construction.
. Supports in the assessment of potential new suppliers.
. Instruction of new employees
. Gives product presentations to customers in efforts to gain
new business
. Interface with customer to develop package location of
product.
. Attends customer’s product development and design review
meetings.
. Manages the local Asian engineering to get knowledgeable

Requirements:
- Identify, establish, and manage local Asian suppliers.
. Support purchasing in Asia from technical standpoint to
identify and assess the Asian suppliers.
. Support of engineering teams and tool shop as interface
function to the Asian suppliers.
. Ensures that the team in China has the proper knowledge of
the company’s tooling and capex requirements. Coordinate
the training of team members in Dura Overseas locations.
. Supports the identification of suppliers e.g. by providing open
book calculations of local capex/tooling. This helps in
decision of make/buy.
. Be the technical partner of the international purchase team in
Asian region. Audit the technical related aspect of
purchasing.
. Act as the counterpart for internal tooling and capex
departments to establish as much local content in the
products in best cost countries as possible.
. Local designing of “standard tooling/capex” has to be
managed.
. Support international engineering teams to control and track
timing of suppliers in Asian region. The position’s presence
will reduce necessity of local presence of international
engineering teams. Train junior tooling project managers in
China.
. Provides international engineering teams periodically with
project plan, maturity status, and status of Asian build tooling
and capex (e.g. by pictures). Discussing with suppliers on
actions plans, cost impacts, prepare negotiation base etc.
. Prepare the final approval / buy-off before shipping to
production plants. Hence the person is the technical interface
between engineering resp. tool shop and local Asian suppliers
(even for selected suppliers with localised Asian subsidiaries).


- Due to his/her technical background he/she is capable to
clarify technical open issues of engineering teams and discuss
the detailed items with local suppliers / partners in Asia, and
vice versa he gets the technical problems from Asian
suppliers for clarification by internal engineering teams.


. Bachelor Degree in Engineering or related major
. Minimum 5 years of related experience. Additional education
can be substituted for experience and vice versa.
. Strong and experienced as Industry professional
. Requires a good working knowledge of procedures, operating
methods and managerial practice; or, a combination of
education and experience that develops technical skills to
perform routine assignments with proficiency
. Good business acumen. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross function team.
. Ability to create a high performing team by hiring, developing
and motivating highly qualified employees
. Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects
. Experience in matrix environment (reporting relationships,
global vs. local requirements, working through peers and
non-reporting line teams).
. Ability to interact with senior level management locally and
globally.
. Excellent Chinese and English communication skills

“MUST HAVES”
. Minimum 5 years’ experience working in MNC automotive
companies in developing tooling and equipment with
suppliers related to Automotive Industry; wide knowledge of
Asian supplier base.
. Strong capability of integration of cross-function teams
. Team leader/manager experience to grow China/Asia team
. Excellent Chinese and English communication skills
