Position Summary
The Director of the Academic Resource Center is responsible for overseeing academic support services at NYU Shanghai. She or he will oversee the tutoring services and teaching and learning support provided to students and faculty by the Academic Resource Center (ARC). She or he will also manage the Global Academic Fellowship Program which brings high-achieving recent graduates to NYU Shanghai as full-time tutors, recitation leaders, and academic mentors. This position will also be responsible for coordinating assessment for NYU Shanghai’s curriculum and creating and implementing new programs as necessary to support students’ academic success at NYU Shanghai.
Responsibilities
? Manage all aspects of the Academic Resource Center: Manage, train and supervise a team of 30+ staff and tutors in coordinating, implementing and assessing tutoring and academic support operations across 6 disciplines (Writing & Speaking, Sciences, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics and Business & Finance). Liaison with faculty coordinators to design training and support for tutors. Develop and coordinate programs to promote college study skills and intellectual enrichment including specific support for students in academic jeopardy. Manage ARC budget and financials.
? Manage all aspects of the Global Academic Fellowship Program: Recruit, select, and provide ongoing guidance and professional development for 30 Global Academic Fellows (GAFs) per year who join NYU Shanghai for a 10-month fellowship experience in international higher education. Develop Fellow work assignments, coordinate workloads, and prepare and liaise with Fellow supervisors in other departments. Coordinate and approve Fellow research projects and professional development opportunities. Manage program budget and financials.
? Academic Accommodations: Facilitate the registration and implementation of academic accommodations for students with disabilities, serve as primary liaison with the NYU Moses Center for Students with Disabilities in New York.
? Planning and program creation: Engage in strategic planning regarding academic support services at the university. Work with staff and faculty coordinators towards creating new programs as needed to support students’ academic success at NYU Shanghai.
? Assessment and accreditation. Coordinate institutional assessment of curriculum goals across the university and coordinate university accreditation process.
? University service. Serve on several university committees.
? Miscellaneous. Other projects as assigned.
Qualification
? Required Education
Masters required, PhD or equivalent preferred, in education or related field.
? Required Experience
？ A minimum of 3 years of experience in management role in an academic context.
？ Experience working at an American university with ESL undergraduates preferred.
？ International work or study experience preferred.
? Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
？ Previous experience working in an Academic Resource Center setting preferred
？ Solid experience in people management, community development, and training and coordinating large staff teams
？ Strong interpersonal communication, listening, and collaborating skills
？ Excellent written, oral and presentation skills in English.
？ Excellent organizational, coordination and time management skills.
？ Open-minded and willing to embrace change and challenge.
？ Flexible and able to work under pressure.
？ Creative thinking and a passion for taking the initiative.
？ Enthusiasm for interacting with young people and working in an academic environment.
