Job Description:
1. This is a cross-functional position leading activities in marketing, partner/customer engagement, system/product conceptual design, rapid prototyping, project proposals and project management.
2. Manage the WDLabs Concept Development Group to be staffed in WD’s Shanghai office. This team will accelerate partner/customer engagement, establish initial product/business concepts and create demos/prototypes during the “expedition” phase. Assemble project proposals to be presented to the Investment Review Board (IRB) to win funding for “incubation” phase and provide program management support of IRB-approved projects. Multiple projects will be run in-parallel and initially focus on areas tied to disk drives and data storage systems (expanding beyond this over time). Expedition and incubation team members will be located at various WD sites and will include external contractors as required.
3. Contribute “hands-on” in business and engineering work, e.g. market engagement planning, system architecture definition, engineering execution, business case creation, etc.

Skills/attributes required:
1. Several years of experience leading front-end business and technical engagement with external partners and customers on high-tech data storage products.
2. Deep working knowledge of data storage product integration into personal and commercial computing and communications ecosystems. Demonstrated ability to define and deliver successful new data storage products to these markets.
3. Ability to identify market opportunities, define system solutions, define marketing strategies and direct engineers to develop concepts, prototypes and products.
4. Able to travel to work with partners, customers and WDLabs teams.
