Position Overview

The Educational Editor is a position within the Curriculum department at Alo7. The main duties involve content creation and editing in multiple formats covering both print and digital media. The content is intended for use by young English language learners and their teachers and parents, both in the classroom and at home. The ideal candidate will be detail-focused, self-motivated, child-centered, and an effective communicator.

Duties and Responsibilities

Copy edit, write, and proof materials in various formats using standard and in-house software and file formats, including Word, Excel, PDFs, Flash, and audio files.
Copy edit and occasionally content edit nonfiction, fiction, poetry, and other genres for English language learning.
To ensure consistency, check content in development to assess difficulty across types.
Identify Common Core, CEFR, and MOE standards for online and classroom exercises and meta-tag them.
Contribute to Index Card creation (database management) and the organized development and archiving of assets.
Contribute to the implementation of a Scope and Sequence in products and services. Check its implementation.
Help to provide English language and content creation guidance to the Curriculum team.
May help to brainstorm ideas and create editorial content for children ages two to fifteen.
May conduct long-distance tutoring classes with Chinese students.
May contribute to the building of the company brand and its characters through the editing or writing of marketing, educational, fiction, and nonfiction materials as needed.
May be required to record spoken word audio as needed.

Skills
Native English speaker
Expert copy editing and proofreading skills
Experienced in using Microsoft Office, Acrobat, PowerPoint, e-mail, internet, and content management systems
Great collaborator who is flexible and works well under pressure
Experience in ELL and/or young learner education
Experience editing children’s picture books or nonfiction is a plus
Familiarity with The Common Core, Chinese Ministry of Education standards for English, or Common European Framework for English is beneficial
Chinese language skills, spoken or written, are beneficial
