R&D center Engineering Director

Essential Functions (Responsibilities):

The selected candidate will be part of the Engineering senior leadership team focused on the leading value engineering programs and cross-functional actions required to meet the business objectives for the Automation & Controls Solutions (ACS) business. Successful candidates will provide technology & program management leadership in a matrix environment with cross-functional teams in US, India, Asia and Europe for product development and engineering program execution.


The selected candidate will be part of the Engineering senior leadership team focused on the building and leading a global engineering center to be located in Shanghai, China. The center will develop high-technology, low-cost video products for the global security industry, and will establish an engineering Video Center of Excellence (COE) to support the Automation & Controls business located in Bradenton, FL. The position will require frequent interaction and involvement with global product and engineering management. The leader will be responsible for hiring, creating & leading highly specialized teams focusing on key technology growth area's such as video analytics, video compression, leading edge camera's with HD, megapixel and IP capabilities, and next generation video recording platforms.



Provide leadership and managerial direction for center employees, and foster the development and implementation of creative strategies and initiatives. Demonstrate the highest standards of ethical conduct in leading the organization, ensuring protection of the environment, development of human resources, and application of sound business practices.



Reports directly to the VP of Engineering, ACS.




Duties & Responsibilities

· Manage R&D engineers in the development of Video products.

· Ensure key objectives are met including customer satisfaction, time to market, project cost and product standard cost.

· Drives innovative products that are compliant to the needs of the business.

· Lead R&D engineers in completion of value engineering projects to achieve cost savings targets.

· Drive strong program management capability in ACS R&D including projects requiring collaboration with other CCSS businesses globally.

· Develop a vision and then implement a global COE consistant to the Engineering Vision.

· Ensure that work done is at a WC level and is bring value across the organization.

· Implement engineering processes including UTC's product development process, Passport.

· Identify, coach and retain engineering talent. Develop and grow R&D department capabilities.

· Report to senior management on center's health and progress.

· Maintain expenses within budget, works with various teams for funding on new programs




Qualifications/Requirements:

Master's degree in electrical, software or computer engineering is required.
Strong experience in leading Value Engineering projects and initiatives.
History of creating and managing project scope, developing and monitoring timelines and budgets for on-time and on-budget delivery.
Experience working with globally dispersed development and quality assurance teams
Sensitivity to cultural differences and understanding communication practices needed to create successful partnerships in an open and supportive environment.
Ability to communicate effectively across organizational lines
Demonstrated leadership and influencing skills (cross-functionally and globally)
Ability to drive program deliverables and identify and resolve technical and program issues/decisions
Minimum 5 years of R&D experience and at least 3 years in a managerial position.
Experience in the video product development in we Industrial/consumer electronics industry is required.
Ability to lead projects with team members in multiple locations globally. Strong communication skills are required.
Some Program Management experince required, preference with working on a global projects.
Fluent in English and Chinese (written & oral).
Experience presenting to Senior Leadership
Team player with strong facilitation/interpersonal skills and a demonstrated commitment to continuous process improvement
· Thorough understanding of the product development process with the ability to balance/manage commercial expectations and project timelines

· Demonstrate the ability to act decisively based upon data and experience.
