Position Summary:
This position supports the implementation and installation of technology equipment, software profiles, programs, training and other services at the library that support technologically intensive research and teaching, and the creation and use of media in teaching and course-related activities; provides technical assistance to customers,troubleshoots hardware and software problems; and performs basic maintenance and repair of parts and equipment. Some weekend and evening hours may be required.
Position details:
- Develops, implements and supports OS X and Linux computing solutions for teaching, learning and research.
- Performs a broad range of computing technology duties, including:
? OS X and Linux workstation and server administration
? Workstation and server hardware specification, assessment, implementation, configuration deployment and support.
? Compile, install, configure and support instructional, administrative and research software applications.
? Design effective technology solutions to meet complex teaching, learning and research needs.
? OS X, Linux and general technology support for end-users.
- Provides friendly and responsive customer service to faculty, staff and students.
- Collaborates with faculty and staff to identify, develop, implement and support hardware and software solutions for teaching, learning and research.
- Coordinates activities with other technology, facilities, instructional and administrative units.
- Works both individually and as part of a multi-disciplinary technology team.
- Develops partnerships with faculty and staff to understand their technology needs.
- May supervise the activities of students and other part-time personnel.
Position Responsibilities
- Design, maintain and support OS X and Linux systems used for university instruction, digital video production, geographical information systems, statistical analysis, engineering design, programming, research and other high-end applications.
- Specify, install, maintain, repair and upgrade computing systems and equipment.
- Consult and collaborate with faculty, staff and students on the selection of appropriate hardware and software for a wide range of teaching, learning and research applications. Implement and support those solutions.
- Train and assist faculty, students and staff in the use of computer hardware and software.
- Other duties and special projects as directed.
Qualifications
- Required Education
Bachelor degree in a related field and/or equivalent combination of education, certification and experience.
- Required Experience
Minimum of 2 years OS X and Linux systems administration.
- Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
? Excellent written and spoken Chinese and English.
? Enthusiasm and proficiency for helping others.
? Expert OS X and Linux administration skills.
? Proficiency in one or more scripting languages such as Javascript, Perl, Python or Unix Shell (ksh, csh, bash, sh).
? Working knowledge of at least one high-level language (C, C++, Fortran).
? Thorough understanding of data network services such as DHCP, VPNs, firewalls and packet routing.
? Skill in training others in the technical use of complex computer systems.
? Ability to learn and apply new skills quickly.
- Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
? Apple or Linux professional certification.
? Experience supporting high-end computer systems used for digital video production or scientific computing.
? Experience configuring, supporting and developing for both iOS and Android.
? Experience developing web applications and pages using HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, XML, Ruby or Javascript/JQuery.
