Brief Description

The Mechanical Design Engineer applies a strong knowledge of mechanical design practices to product development in order to meet product requirements and company objectives. The lead develops and maintains mechanical design processes, insures process adherence and mentors other designers. In this role, you will be responsible for work that is less defined in scope, utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute project objectives and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.

Primary Responsibilities


- Responsible to manage project scope, schedule, budget and risk for the airborne hardware portion of the IMA project throughout the execution of a project.
- Execute the design of assigned mechanical projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
- Create Computer Aided Design (CAD) models in a parametric model environment using Unigraphics NX, as well as to generate, check, validate, and issue associated drawings.
- Create definitions of parts, modules, and assemblies in the form of 2D cross sections, 3D models, tolerance stack-ups, and various electronic data formats to support analysis, manufacturing, assembly, tooling, and inspection
- Derive electronic data models for use in engineering analysis, manufacturing of tools, dies, molds, and gages, and drive quality inspections
- Determine dimensional constraints and geometric tolerances required for proper clearances and fits while maximizing manufacturing capabilities
- Support outsourcing by preparing and sending work packages to suppliers, including defining the work scope, estimating hours and due dates, monitoring progress, and serving as a technical resource through periodic communication with suppliers
- Work within the guidelines of applicable GE-AVIC Policies & Procedures, Engineering Standards, Specifications, and Government and Commercial Standards
- Evaluate and influence new and revised Engineering Standards and Product Definition Operating Procedures
- Support product requirement development, validation and verification. Monitor and insure compliance with all requirements that impact mechanical hardware design throughout the design life cycle.
- Ensure all interface characteristics between components are established and agreed upon by Designers of mating parts
- Concurrently manage multiple projects monitoring progress and quality and ensure schedule requirements are met.
- Participate in proposal development as a mechanical packaging expert, steering the mechanical design, thermal, vibration, and other environmental design philosophy in the preferred direction and advising team members of the risks related to trade study choices

Qualifications Required

- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Design from an accredited university with a minimum of 10 years professional work experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design of aerospace electronics
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in technical leadership roles.
- Knowledge of avionics hardware requirements, design, certification, and documentation
- Ability to successfully work in a team environment



Qualifications Desired

- Experience doing tolerance stack-up analysis and applied GD&T
- Experience in engineering drawing checking practices and change management
- Working knowledge of common machining and manufacturing processes as they relate to design for manufacturability
- Good oral and written communication skills both in Chinese and in English - Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Organized self-starter with ability to keep multiple projects going simultaneously
- 3-D Computer aided design (CAD) experience, preferably in Unigraphics NX. CATIA experience is also desired.
- Ability to manage electronic data files in a structured database environment with Windchill experience
- Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerance as it relates to individual parts and overall assemblies (ANSI Y14.5)
- Working knowledge of materials, material standards and drawing callouts to insure quality products through the products life.
- Document writing, spread sheet generation and presentation skills - Ability to perform in a virtual team environment, across functions and with suppliers.
