Global Invacom Ltd (GIL) is a leading volume manufacturer of LNBs, Transmitters, dishes, switches, wireless products and accessories for the satellite TV and VSAT markets worldwide. GIL is developing a large range of new products to complement our already extensive range.

The company has three design/development sites and one dish production site in the UK and is a majority owner of two production sites in China (Shanghai and Shenzhen) and one admin office in Singapore.

The position of Mechanical Engineer at GIL is a permanent position reporting to the Product Engineering Manager in the GISH and requires a professional and experienced Engineer with proven Mechanical design ability. This individual will be based at the Shanghai plant but will be required to travel to various sites and suppliers within China/Asia.

The successful candidate will have good spoken and written English.

Responsibilities

• Working with engineers in the UK to understand the mechanical design and operation of our products
• To work with GISH IQC department to:
  a. Ensure meaningful and relevant parameters are being measured
  b. To develop the IQC inspection parameters and criteria on an ongoing basis to improve product quality

· To be involved throughout the full development cycle of GIL new products:
a. Working with the UK designers in the early stages of product development to understand the designs and provide input on function and manufacturability
b. Visiting casting and moulding suppliers at various stages during the development to educate the suppliers in critical requirements and assisting in the tooling/manufacturing process including presence at and assessment of early sample runs of tooling
c. Visiting suppliers to eradicate issues/technically approve suppliers
d. Responsible for the mechanical aspects of prototype and qualification runs of new GIL products at GISH. This will include observation and resolution of issues and fault finding of problems working alongside the RF/Microwave and production engineers

· Dealing with mechanically related yield issues and identification and resolution of mechanical design problems

· Design, and assistance in the design, of some of the mechanical components within our products and production jigs/fixtures

We are looking for a motivated, innovative individual with excellent design, communication and teamwork skills combined with good practical and hands-on abilities.

The successful candidate will demonstrate an aptitude to develop and refine new skills rapidly and will be a good team player willing to share information with and learn from peers.

The role requires a good level of technical knowledge and understanding combined with a common sense approach. It may involve usage of CAD tools including
Solid Works and Solid Edge combined with the generation of relevant documentation to enable manufacture.

Experience in any of the following areas is desirable:

· Sound knowledge and experience of designing for high volume production in some of the following areas: pressure die-castings, plastic moulded parts, metal pressings

· Working in a high volume manufacturing environment

• Knowledge of FEA techniques
• Proficient with 2D & 3D CAD tools, ideally Solid Works or Solid Edge, but also with strong computer literacy skills – Windows, MS Office etc
