Primary Responsibility – EMC (Electromagnetic compatibility)

- Candidate must have Proficient understanding of EMC discipline, specifically –

o Must be familiar with FCC, EU EMC Directives, CISPR22/34, CISPR24/35 requirements

o Deep familiarity with local EMC testing laboratories is expected.

o Ability to organize test process, review test data and interpretation of test data of possible EMC concerns.

o Strong knowledge of materials used in EMC containment and their application – gasketing, ferrites, connectors, board components, etc.

o Basic understanding of circuit design principles, ability to read and analyze schematic, provide recommendations regarding EMC issues.

o Demonstrated ability to analyze mechanical design for potential EMC issues.

o Ability to evaluate layout of board and provide concise explanation on concerns to a designer, following EMC² EMC design strategy. Requires strong familiarity with design tools used in EMC – Cadence Allegro

o Practical skills in troubleshooting of EMC issues utilizing bench tools – such as field probes, portable analyzer, etc.

o Demonstrated ability for continued learning in the field of relevant EMC materials.

o Practical knowledge to organize and run engineering tests, such as ESD evaluation, Conducted Emissions, etc. in the CoE engineering lab.

o Ability to instruct design engineers on proper interpretation/techniques on performing these tests when necessary.

o Verify and enforce proper test configurations and S/W are used to meet global EMC requirements

o Coordinate and monitor testing at ODM/JDM test and certification labs as needed

o Interpret global EMC regulations and standards with respect to new product requirements.

- Instruct/present basics of EMC compliance to SH CoE as required.

- Candidate must drive EMC design issues to successful resolution even when there is strong resistance from design team

- Successful candidate needs to be regarded as the “Subject Matter Expert” with design community, so that his recommendations on engineering issues are respected and not questioned.

Secondary Responsibility - Product Safety

- Knowledge and willingness to learn technical aspects of the IEC 60950-1/IEC 62368-1 standards and EU LVD directives

- Familiarity with product safety standards for plastics, batteries, cables, wiring, etc. Need to know what these standards are about, not working knowledge.

- Review NPI products to ensure compliance to all global requirements

- Skills/experience to estimate schedule and resources needed for product testing.

- Skills/experience to determine if/when product safety testing is required.

- Knowledge/experience working directly with:

o Design teams

o Global ODM’s and JDM’s

o Suppliers – HDD, SSD, PS, SPS, UPS,

- Review test reports from agencies, ODM’s and JDM’s identifying critical issues with reports/certifications insuring accuracy and verifying content is correct.

Other Responsibilities related to Global Product Compliance

- Ability to establish professional relationship with peers in U.S. exchanging information regarding product certification and technical assistance

- Familiarity with obtaining product global certification for both EMC and product safety

- Ensuring compliance to EMC² “Product Safety & Electromagnetic Compatibility Compliance Guide” (108000495)

- Conduct or assist in analysis of any compliance related issues. Assist in definition of corrective action as necessary

- The ability to negotiate business and logistical issues for managing hardware test samples

- Requires engagement with EMC² Supplier Base Management to:

o Notify suppliers of global regulation changes

o external manufacturing factory inspections

o supplier/component selections

- Represent and communicate Global Product Compliance strategy in regards to regulatory compliance to SH CoE, JDM’s, ODM’s, partners and suppliers.

- Strong English skills both written and verbal - required

- Must be able to write and interpret global technical documents clearly and concisely and be familiar with global certification processes, including working with global agencies.

- Experience participant in regional industry organizations involved in addressing global regulatory issues affecting ITE.

Prior participation in regional regulatory organizations is preferred.

- Future responsibilities - SH CoE platform certification to global regulatory requirements for both EMC and product safety from design concept to End of Service Life.

- Membership in professional organizations, such as IEEE EMC and/or Product Safety Society is highly desirable.

Education/Experience

1. Minimum BSEE

2. Minimum of 5+ yrs. of EMC

3. Product safety experience - Plus or willingness to learn

4. Demonstrated ability performing ITE regulatory for a global company from China
