Job Title: Product Engineer III

Reports to: Product Engineering Manager

BASIC FUNCTION

Performs a variety of engineering and customer support related tasks in the planning and development of new products. Tasks are typically semi-complex to complex in nature with considerable requirement to exercise independent judgement.

SCOPE

Performs a variety of routine engineering related tasks to support the business unit or plant.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.Responsible for the design and development of new and current products.

2.Coordinates preparing quotation packages (Bill Of Material, CAD models, drawings) and making engineering drawings as required to facilitate changes in production.

3.Lead product development activity leading to tooling kick-off, including D-FMEA, stacks & studies, and drawings.

4.Coordinates prototype and pre-production sample builds.

5.Coordinates DV and PV testing.

6.Evaluate proposed engineering changes for impact and feasibility, on the product and process prior to incorporation.

7.Supporting product engineering deliverables for APQP.

8.Work with component suppliers to maximize design effectiveness through purchasing.

9. Lead Product Design Reviews.

10. Identify potential DURA or customer key product characteristics in conjunction with the Quality Engineer and Systems Engineer.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Assists designers with information on new and changing products.

2.Completes other duties as assigned by manager.

3.Analyze failure modes and develop corrective actions to new and current products.

4.Explore design change opportunities to improve manufacturing, product reliability and/or cost utilizing VA/VE and DFM/DFA.

5.Participate in tooling run-offs and equipment run-offs, as necessary.

6.Participate in regularly scheduled Team meetings.

CONTACTS

Internal:Interfaces with CFT Team on a regular basis (Systems Engineer, Quality Engineer, Process

Engineer, Purchasing, and Sales Manager)

External: Interfaces with suppliers. Also interfaces with Customer on a limited basis.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineer

Experience: 5 years minimum of experience as product or design engineer of mechanical systems.

Experience in the automotive industry is a must.

Working

Knowledge: Requires a good working knowledge of procedures, including APQP, operating methods and managerial practice; or, a combination of education and experience that develops technical skills to perform routine assignments with proficiency.
