Database Support Engineer （全英文工作）


Key tasks and responsibilities:

Installing database server and configuring new modules in conjunction with Central Office

Monitoring and maintaining software performance. Talking users through a series of actions, either face to face, over the telephone or via remote desktop support as appropriate. Providing support, including procedural, documentation and training of new users as and when required in conjunction with local staff

Troubleshooting system hardware and software problems and diagnosing and solving these faults in conjunction with local super users, IT staff and external vendors as appropriate. Finding solutions to problems, be it through creating a desktop shortcut or fixing a major fault on the operating system/software

Testing and evaluating new technology in conjunction with the UK and Asia Regional support team before release. Further refining the ‘physical design’ to meet system storage requirements

Installing and testing new versions of the database management system. Maintaining data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act; Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (‘metadata’) to ensure reporting criteria are better understood by day to day super users

Consulting clients/colleagues concerning the maintenance and performance of the software system and asking questions to obtain information clarify details and implement information. Constantly updating technical knowledge and skills by attending in-house and/or external courses, reading manuals and accessing other web based research materials (Serco blogs, forums and other publicly available information appropriate to the product development (issues and concerns)). Problem-solving and thinking laterally as part of a team, or individually, to meet the needs of the project

Personal Attributes & Requirement:
At Least 3 years relevant experience of working with Software packages, the support of and general maintenance
SQL Experience is a must
System configuration, XML coding and SQL scripting
Bachelor degree or above
CET 6 or above
As a result good writing and spoken English will be essential, excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to work using own initiative or as part of a team
Experience of working in an IT support environment, previous Serco experience is desirable. ITIL qualified would be an advantage. Previous experience of working in an educational environment would be beneficial
