POSITION TITLE: Problem Resolution Engineer


FUNCTION: Engineering


REPORTS TO: Manager, Engineering Problem Resolution



POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for coaching and training their engineering organization in the global 8-D process and associated tools. This engineer will lead selected issue teams/ task forces directly and will also support selected statistical analyses in support of issue teams. This engineer will coordinate problem status reporting for their area of responsibility. Finally, this position is responsible for identifying and communicating lessons learned back to core documents and to the larger global engineering team (with Global Engineering Excellence).


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

? Coach and train issue teams/ task forces focused on resolution of field issues using 8-D and 6-Sigma root cause tools such as Fishbone diagrams, IS / IS-NOT differential analysis, statistical calculation tools, as well as knowledge of turbocharger technologies.
? Must be able to leverage resources in the local applications team, PD teams, and Core Science without having direct reports on those teams.
? Participate in local engineering team and engineering management meetings and keep the team informed of issue status as appropriate
? Present the status of Issue Resolution investigations to customers and manage sensitive customer communication in high stress situations
? Adhere-to and enforce compliance at the local engineering levels to the published problem solving process, methods, and tools
? Drive containment and corrective actions and ensures feedback into core engineering documents such as FMEAs, DVPs, and Engineering Standards
? Must be willing to travel to local customer locations 8-10 times per year.



QUALIFICATIONS:

5+ years experience in Turbocharger Product Engineering or Turbocharger Application Engineering preferred. Experience must be “hands-on” with significant laboratory capability demonstrated.

Experience leading or participating in cross-functional teams with decentralized / matrix supervision.

Minimum of an Associates or Technology degree, a Bachelors in Engineering preferred. Must be an individual with high ethical standards and appropriate professional image.

Must demonstrate strong technical skills, analytical ability, excellent problem solving skills, good judgment and strong business focus.

Must be a self-directed individual who is politically sensitive and a team player. Must be able to relate to people at all levels of the organization and possesses good communication skills.

Must be a good educator who is trustworthy and willing to listen, to share information and serve as a mentor.

Experience in root cause and problem resolution including skills with 6-sigma tools, 8D processes, DFMEA, DVP&R, and statistical data analysis (training is available if needed) preferred. Training will be encouraged for Six-Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt qualification.

Candidate should be prepared to spend the first 3-6 months of the assignment traveling to other BWTS locations for training and experience in problem resolution methods.
