公司介绍

Over 100 years of innovation
We are a proud British company with a reputation built on over a century of luggage making experience, leading the way in quality, innovation and design.
The company has a long established tradition of producing luggage designed for lightness and strength without compromising quality.
Based at our headquarters in Bury, Antler's in-house design team is constantly working to produce new styles and designs to make the British luggage market the envy of the world.
Late 1800s: The Brooks Saddle & Beyond
It all began with a horse and cart. Our story began in 1865 when John Boultbee Brooks left his hometown of Hickley in Leicestershire, with £20 in his pocket. According to company legend it was in that year that the young man, then 19 years old, bought himself a new fangled velocipede. He and his contemporaries came to work on a horse and found the wooden saddle excruciatingly uncomfortable.
His father made leather saddles for horses so the young John set about designing and developing a comfortable saddle from leather in his father’s works. Manufacturing leather strapping for horses and general leather goods.
In 1870, noting more and more people were indulging in the new pastime of cycling Brooks went over to the manufacture of bicycle saddles. Brooks let his eye for innovation lead him to becoming an early adopter of the new 'safety bicycle'. However, he found that the combination of rickety 19th Century paving and hard seats made the ride unbearable. To solve this, Brooks invented a new type of saddle. The Brook's saddle, as it was known, quickly became popular and achieved worldwide success. It was soon joined by saddlebags and panniers.
Early 1900’s: The Journey From Saddles to Luggage
Then came the stag and antler. It was in 1920 that Boultbee's son entered the passenger luggage market with leather wardrobe trunks for ocean liners and unique 'motor trunks' to attach to the cars.
A keen interest in wildlife meant the adoption of the stag's head and antler as a brand symbol for the luggage line.
Generally hide luggage was made over a timber frame, often oak or mahogany but generally pine. During the 1930’s the Stag and Antler division of Brooks invented the first soft top suitcase. Legend has it that Harrods sold the first consignment in a single day.
The War Effort
In the Second World War Antler shifted its focus to producing haversacks, webbing belts and similar military equipment to help in the war effort. After the war, there was a return to the luggage business, with further innovation in soft-sided luggage with rich, quality linings.
Tourism Takes Flight
A new age of mass air travel dawned in the 1950s and tourism boomed. Antler saw further opportunities to develop products to cater for a new and ever-expanding market. One bestseller, the 'Airstream', combined soft and hard fabrics in to one suitcase. Whatever way people travelled, Antler led the field with technical innovations.
A relocation in 1962 saw Antler move from the Midlands to its current location in Northern Manchester. Additional manufacturing sites were established in Mossley, Littleboroug and Exeter to match increasing demand.
By the mid 1960’s the firm was employing some 400 workers, exports were going as far and wide as Singapore and Japan. In 1968 the company provided members of the British Olympic team leaving for Mexico with Airzip suitcases.
Continued Innovation
Towards the end of the 20th century, Antler continued to forge ahead with new products, entering the hard luggage and suitcase market and introducing quality leather goods.
The company played a key part in the rollercase revolution, a technical innovation that changed the way luggage was shaped forever.
