Job Title: Senior Scientist in Histopathology, GSKR&D in China

Reports to: Associate Director, Pathology, MDR-SH, PTS China

Location: Shanghai Pudong

Role Purpose and Key Responsibilities:

-Laboratory based role that requires highly productive in performing a broad range of experiments related to histology and working in a multidisciplinary team.

-To provide robust andquantitative histology evidence to support drug discovery mainly focus onneuroscience

-Incorporate existing histologytechnology or propose and execute innovative experiments which positivelyinfluence "project" direction

-Ensure that design and interpretationof complex experiments and data management activities

-Independently prepare and communicateconclusions and recommendations for next steps

-Accountable for experimental timelines inaccordance with project objectives

-Contribute to solving experimental problems

-Effectively coordinate external collaborationsas appropriate

-Supervise junior scientists when needed

Basic Requirements:

-M.D. orPh.D. in Biology, Medicine

-Highl ymotivated and experienced in the field of histology, pathology and relatedtechnology

-Morethan three year hands-on experience in histopathological skills (paraffinembedding, paraffin sectioning, frozen section, immunohistochemistry)

-Morethan three year hands-on experience in histopathological analysis (imagecapture and analysis, image quantification and statistical analysis)

-Capable of designing and performing histologyexperiments in the laboratory independently

-Capable of analyzingdata and maintaining a laboratory notebook independently

-Demonstrateddata summary and presentation skills

-Have a strong knowledge of literaturerelevant to histology technology and design to continue developing interest inprogram-related science

-Abilityto bring and set up new histology technology when needed

-Be ableto validate various animal models by using existing or developing newtechnology

-Goodteam player with strong sense of collaboration

-Strong passion forindustrial drug discovery research

-Self motivated and highly responsible for daily activities

-Good command of English (Written and spoken)

-Work to highest standards of safety in a lab environment

SpecializedKnowledge/Preferred Requirements:

-More than two years of hands-on experience in histology skills (confocal microscopy, in situ hybridization, process for electron microscopy, stereologicalquantification)

-Strongbackground in anatomy, histology and pathology

-Knowledgeof neuroinflammation or neurodegenerative conditions such as Multiplesclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Diseases

-Morethan two years of working experience in pharmaceutical industry orContract Research Organization

-Abilityto work effectively in a matrix team as a representative of histopathologyplatform to provide input to program teams

-Demonstratedaptitude for managing multiple projects and priorities

Self motivated andhighly responsible for laboratory management
