POSITION PURPOSE:



Responsibilities of this position involve the support of the product development process and use of SCP test facilities to verify and validate product designs and performance associated with Siemon's Copper Cabling Systems. This person is responsible for overseeing one or more technicians, test specifications, test reports and test data, laboratory systems and procedures. To supervise projects and people in the laboratory in order to maximize productivity and resource levels.



To apply electrical/mechanical and reliability engineering principles in order to establish valid test methods / qualification criteria and support product development and testing activities for a wide variety of products, according to planned schedules and with minimal supervision.



To analyze product design and experimental results with respect to diagnosis and recommendations on product capabilities; including suggestions to correct or improve performance deficiencies. Position is responsible for providing information on product performance to Engineering, production, quality, purchasing, and product management. This position may also have project engineering responsibilities.



QUALIFICATIONS:



· Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

· Experience working in a laboratory environment is desirable (3 to 5 yrs)

· Knowledge of mechanical engineering test methods and analysis, manufacturing methods/processes and applications knowledge.

· Knowledge of signal integrity issues for a wide variety of high speed connectors, cables, and assemblies being developed for the PC, networking, and telecommunications industries.

· Experience in testing high frequency components or cabling systems is desirable.

· Familiar with the governing standards within the telecommunications industry specifically TIA, ISO/IEC, IEC, IEEE, and EN.

· Experience/familiarity with EMC/EMI testing and standards desirable

· Exposure to and knowledge of Quality standards (ISO 9000)

· General knowledge of reliability concepts and statistics

· Methodical, organized and detail orientated work habits

· Strong written and verbal communication skills

· Experience with laboratory equipment with emphasis on equipment used to test copper cable and connectors (ie. network analyzer, ENA, DTX, etc)

· Demonstrated ability to utilize P.C. and other tools to accomplish activities

· Strong technical writing skills

· Some travel may be required


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


1. Testing Procedure/Facility formulation



A. Responsible for supervising day to day activities of assigned technical staff including conducting performance reviews, personnel development, discipline, etc.

B. Effectively supervise technicians and resources in support of various projects and customers. Helps solve priority issues among lab staff and internal and external customers (Product development, Process Engineering Quality, Technical Support and Operations, etc)

C. Maintains a certified test facility for determining and documenting compliance of Siemon Company products to relevant standards

D. Effectively develops specific test methods and apparatus to guarantee repeatable and accurate results for product qualification and certification with minimal effort

E. Coordinates quick turnaround qualification methods and performance criteria with other engineers to evaluate purchased goods and products under development. Builds positive teams and relationships with others

F. Continually refines facilities and methods to improve techniques and reduce lead-time, as well as to accommodate test requirements of new product types. Effectively overcomes obstacles, achieves goals, and influences others to achieve goals

G. Organizes reference materials, equipment manuals and relevant test standards.

H. Effectively coordinates with outside test laboratories to procure testing that is beyond the capabilities of in-house facilities; Obtains "expert" opinions, quick turn-around data or independent verification of in-house results.

I. Actively and continually adjust balance between urgent and strategic support activities. Communicate significant changes in balance to executive management

J. Support completion of bid specs, RFQ, and customer specific request

K. Support Global Supply Chain Initiatives

1. Support definition of requirements for expanding global supply chain

2. Support Global Supply chain thru product validation, technical support, quality and product development

L. Ensure integrity of test results, maintain documented test procedures & processes and establish round robin correlation test plan

Develop SCP Test Lab budget, monitor, maintain and provide monthly status reporting to management

2. Product Testing and Analysis



A. Assists new product development efforts with performance analysis at various stages of development including end of life and assists with certification/listing of released products.

B. Effectively evaluates pending product revisions and develops test programs to determine their impact on performance, standards compliance and product listing.

C. Analysis of field failures and chronic customer complaints to diagnose cause and recommend measures for corrective action.

D. Properly qualifies components and assemblies that are under consideration by purchasing and engineering for use in standard products.

E. Researches the performance of competitive products with respect to noteworthy capabilities and deficiencies.

F. Accurately maintains traceability of test samples, tracking and data sheets for projects (DVTP and FRACAS)

1. Properly follows all safety procedures and policies

2. Sets positive tone in customer interactions and is sympathetic with customer's perceptions

3. Works well with external supply chain partners to validate new products, insure quality of purchased components/finished goods, enforce compliance to company product specifications and pro-actively correct quality related issues.

4. Assists manufacturing and quality with the development of production testing and general engineering support on special projects on an as needed basis

5. Utilizes periodic off-premises customer contact for technical support/expertise on product performance and related information

6. Effectively maintains a high level of awareness and expertise on product testing and general industry trends that may influence product compliance and test facilities

7. Continuously maintains a high level of organization, productivity and efficiency on active projects as reflected by their timely completion and accurate status reports

8. Accurately develops proposals and specifications for new equipment purchases and to procure new equipment, once it has been approved

9. Performs all other tasks as assigned

10. Maintains an orderly and clean work environment

11. Champions and leads appropriate and timely actions when resolving open issues

12. Incorporates and looks beyond company goals and industry directions to stay ahead of the competition

13.Responsible for promoting EMS and identifying environment aspects in production department. Assist in establish the system of ISO9000 and ISO14001.
