Position Summary
NYU Shanghai is seeking a highly motivated, experienced IT project manager to help build, improve and support the IT infrastructure of NYU Shanghai. The IT project manager will be responsible for performing tactical project management on high-priority global initiatives that require cross-team, vendor, and time-zone coordination of resources, and making sure that NYU Shanghai IT projects are aligned with the academic and administrative requirements.
The IT Project Manager will be accountable for evaluating project requirements, engaging appropriate Shanghai local IT personnel and local 3rd party resource coordination to execute IT portion of joint global and local deployment of varying degrees of IT services to students, staff and faculty.
Responsibilities
- The IT Project Manager will be responsible for creating and managing IT projects within the lifecycle of project management. Additionally, the IT Project Manager manages and reports on any issues, action items and risks that arise during project development and delivery.
- The IT Project manager is expected to have broad knowledge of IT infrastructure, networking, systems, and operations and a general understanding of technical terms. The candidate should feel comfortable dealing with uncertainties in a fast changing environment and be willing to learn and delve into fields that he/she is previously unfamiliar with.
The duties include:
1. Act as a guide through discovery, engagement, and communication in order to surface project needs, determine project scope and provide recommendations for solutions.
2. Work with the program director, portfolio managers, and workgroup leads to coordinate activities across teams and organizations, including contracted vendors.
3. Prepare high level summaries and detailed technical reports for executives and stakeholders.
4. Provide project management on specific work efforts within the NYU Shanghai IT Program.
5. Identify and manage cross-project dependencies and provide insight to the risks, issues, requirements, designs and solutions.
6. Coordinate and prioritize resources across projects, managing links between the projects and the overall costs and risks of the program utilizing project management tools and processes.
7. Facilitate sign-off and delivery of projects to NYU Shanghai IT operations, services or other management teams.
Specific day-to-day tasks on each assigned project include:
1. Establish plans, timelines, budgets and milestones.
2. Write business cases and work plans.
3. Track and status action items and deliverables.
4. Create and distribute documentation.
5. Perform research and analysis.
Qualification
? Required Education
Bachelor's degree in computer related disciplines. PMP certification or equivalent certification or experience.
? Required Experience
Minimum of 5 years' experience in IT project delivery, preferably in the area of IT infrastructure projects. Experience leading project planning and delivery within in a PMO environment is preferred.
? Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent written and verbal executive communication skills. Fluent in both Chinese and English languages. Experience leading subject matter experts and distributed teams in the delivery of technical projects.
? Broad experience working with, negotiating with and managing performance of external vendors.
? Thorough operational understanding of project management frameworks. Experience working with offshore and/or geographically distributed project teams and resources.
