Responsibilities:


The primary function of Shell Albian Process Engineering group is the provision of process engineering leadership and support to the Shell Albian Oilsands site, such that the site delivers its production plan and continuously improves,particularly in the areas of bitumen recovery, production, energy performance, and asset reliability.
Process Engineers focus on the design, operation, control, and optimization of oil sands development through the aid of systematic computer-based methods. This position is responsible for providing engineering leadership in troubleshooting problems and implementing timely solutions for optimal efficiency, productivity, quality, and minimal waste. This is carried out through Area Reliability Production Team (ARPT) governance, measuring, analyzing, and controlling techniques to drive continuous improvement of manufacturing processes and product quality.

• Monthly report and daily follow-up on the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of the Unit: Bitumen Recovery, Feedstock Quality versus Unit Performance, Performance of the Instrumentation associated to Mass Balance, Lab Sampling and Analysis, etc.
• Develop monitoring structure by data, trends, and lab results from the last 24 hours for the daily meeting with operation for revision of the performance of the Unit and definition of the next 24 hours strategy.
• Give input for the Short Range Planning department.
• Prepare a monthly report for all data,trends,correlations,and findings.
• Prepare Documents and Protocols for testing of chemical additives, restriction diagrams of the Unit,performance tests at different throughput levels and feedstock qualities, as well as preparation of the report or presentation of the tests.
• Coordinate equipment inspections, condition monitoring, and performance improvement activities to optimize equipment availability, prevent loss of containment, minimize operational upsets/shutdowns and control costs.
• Revise and comment on all developments from the Debottlenecking Project.
• Interrelations with clients in operations, maintenance, planning, mine, mid-range process engineering, Shell research and consulting groups.
• Identify new projects and ideas to increase the Shell added value.
• Optimize chemical additive consumption.

Requirements:


• Minimum Level of Post-Secondary: Bachelors Degree
• Specify Required Discipline/Field of Study: Chemical Engineering, Mine Engineering, Mineral Process Engineering, or equivalent
• Technical and/or Other Certifications: APEGGA Certification or ability to register
• Minimum Number of Years of Related Work Experience Required: 8-12+ years for intermediate role, 4-9+years for junior role
• Previous direct experience in process unit operations.
• Clear understanding of the economic drivers of the business
• Strong understanding of the technical basics of measurement, instrumentation, and process control and reliability requirements/priorities and asset policies.
• Ability to identify systemic organizational and technical issues and rectify them.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills.
• Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to work in a flexible team environment.
• Strong computer skills and a familiarity with common business software, simulation tools, and statistical tools, etc
