The Position

• Lead and Perform preformulation research activities such as comprehensive physicochemical and solid state property characterization of new molecular entities (NMEs) to evaluate the drug like properties and develop-ability, polymorph/salt/co-crystal screening for phase-appropriate solid form selection, etc.
• Review technical reports/documents generated by Preformulation group.
• Serve as a resident expert in Preformulation area to optimize the capability of Preformulation group to create innovative and efficient solutions to specific problems utilizing the state-of-the-art technologies and in-depth scientific knowledge and experience.
• Represent Preformulation group to attend relevant internal and external symposia/conferences for knowledge sharing and scientific presentations.
• Lead internal Preformulation projects and manage related out-sourcing activities. Work collaboratively with project team and out-sourcing partners.
• Responsible for drafting, reviewing, and implementing of analytical related SOPs or guidelines, as well as maintaining & troubleshooting of all formulation related analytical instruments.
• Supervise 1~2 scientists. Coach junior scientists in implementing innovative solutions for assigned Preformulation activities; be responsible for performance plan & review, and career development for direct reports.
• May serve as CMC representative in project teams. Coordinate CMC activities related to specific projects.
• Additional responsibilities include new technology evaluation, vendor or out-sourcing partner auditing & evaluation, and other department related activities.
• Other related duties may be assigned to meet team and site objectives.

• Ph.D. degree in pharmaceutical analysis/pharmaceutical science (or closely related field) or Master degree with at least 6 years’ working experience in pharmaceutical (or chemical) industry.
• Solid knowledge on preformulation theories and the state-of-the-art technologies, and hands-on experience in operating, calibrating, maintaining and troubleshooting of a wide range of instruments (XRPD, DSC, TGA, PLM, DVS, IR, PSD, HPLC, Dissolution etc).
• Knowledge on Formulation theories and technologies would be a plus.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience for solid state characterization, pharmaceutical profiling, polymorph/salt/co-crystal screening. Capability for fully independent work in all these areas and Identify critical physicochemical liabilities & hot spots that may impact on development.
• Must be able to manage project; must possess strong problem solving and troubleshooting abilities. must be able to manage Preformulation project . Must be proactive and self-motivated.
• Must be a good team player with good interpersonal communication skills.
• Fluent in both written and spoken English; can deliver good presentations in English and Chinese.
