Key purpose:

To provide overall Management responsibility for the Environmental Health and Safety regulatory compliance of the Business Units managed by Smiths Interconnect in China, with primary responsibility for the Kaelus Shanghai site.
1. This role is primarily focused on driving improvements through the local EHS site representatives, to ensure that systems are continually developed in accordance with the requirements of ISO:14001and OHSAS:18001 certifications.
2. A key element of this role will involve keeping up to date with current legislation and any impending changes to Chinese EHS laws and regulations. It will also involve developing and presenting implementation plans to senior management within each site to respond to such changes.
3. This role will be based at the Shanghai Kaelus site.
4. This role needs to ensure that all the sites remain compliant with Smiths Group and Interconnect Division Policies, as well as limiting exposure to financial liabilities.
5. Contribute to create an EHS culture and value across the whole organization and for all employees.

Duties & Responsibilities
1. To co-ordinate the EHS activities across all China sites and to develop and implement best practices.
2. To ensure a common approach to the collection, interpretation and reporting of EHS statistics to relevant stakeholders (Smiths Group and Interconnect).
3. To drive through Smiths Group Energy Reduction Targets and other such targets as they are developed.
4. To hold EHS reviews with each site EHS Leaders and Coordinators to review problems/risk areas/ concerns which may affect the wellbeing of that site’s employees and to the overall environmental and health and safety of any particular site.
5. To keep up to date with current and impending China legislation and ensure that internal stakeholders are informed and made aware of the impact(s) to the
6. Monthly reporting on Smiths Group ‘Sheperd’ system for each site.

Reporting Structure
1. Direct reporting will be to the Division EHS Director in the USA.
2. Matrix (operational) reporting to the three Site Managers in China.

Qualifications & Skills
1. Recognised relevant professional qualification / certification
2. Ability to communicate fluently in Mandarin and English.
3 Strong organizational and influencing skills as the position will not have direct reports but will need to coordinate EHS efforts with site personnel.

Experience
1. Minimum of 10 years EHS experience within a ‘medium to high risk’ manufacturing environment.
2. Proven track record of developing, presenting and overseeing the implementation of site action plans.
3. Proven track record of managing EHS matters across multiple sites.
