Our client owns one of the largest E-commerce Platforms and Mail Order businesses in Europe selling both Apparel and Hardgoods. Their Far East Sourcing operation employs over 200 people across Hong Kong, China, Bangladesh and India. They now seek an experienced Product & Sourcing Manager- Core & Home to join their office in Shanghai, China.


KEY RESPONSIBILITES:

-To lead and manage the sourcing team to source product ranges which represent value for money, on time to the quality standards set by company by direct involvement in the negotiation and management of the supply base.
-Direct impact on business performance through the cost effective sourcing of softlines/hardlines for the company
-UK Product team.
-Line management up to 10 direct & indirect reports who will be responsible for supporting the delivery of the sourcing strategy
-Full responsibility for the people management of their team e.g. recruitment, performance management, absence management and setting the direction and the development of the team
-Responsible for the headcount & travel budget of their team

Financial

-Monitor all departmental KPIs to ensure appropriate actions are taken to meet budget and targets.
-Prepare the departmental shipment plan and feed into the overall product plan.
-Plan and agree the budgeted costs for the team.
-Produce any reforecast requirements

Supply Base

-Manage the supply base within the agreed sourcing strategy ensuring adherence to agreed price, quality and on time delivery standards.
-Work in partnership with the UK to identify new suppliers in new product areas or categories for growth.
-Identify, monitor and maintain the appropriate supply base by developing close relationships including regular attendance at factories.
-Propose innovative product solutions and ‘smart’ negotiations to ensure margin is maximized.

Operational excellence

-Have a strong understanding of product breakdown costs in order to support strong negotiation position/process.
-Place the right product in the right factory according to the agreed strategy.
-Create critical paths alongside the Group Planning Manager that hit the keys dates as defined by the UK.
-Ensure all processes are understood and identify opportunities for improvement.
-Respond to errors and ensure lessons are learned to prevent repetition.
-Ensure regular communication with the UK Product teams.

Product & Market
-Ensure a clear understanding of the requirements of our customer and Brand/s.
-Feedback to the UK buying teams any new products, fabrics or techniques available in the market.
-Negotiate and resolve any claims placed against the suppliers.
-Have a strong understanding of the UK retail market in order to deliver relevant product to the product teams

People

-Ensure a strong culture of performance management is created in the team through robust objective setting, mid year reviews, 1:1s and a thorough end of year review.
-Have a succession plan for the team supported by clear training & development plans.
-Coach and support all team members to deliver high performance.
-Respond to the Your Shout survey to deliver high levels of employee engagement.
-Develop strong relationships with Product team & Quality teams in UK Head Office
-Head of Sourcing to ensure the company Sourcing Strategy is delivered
-Quality Manager to ensure continuous improvement of product standards and customer satisfaction
-Planning Manager to coordinate capacity planning and allocation of product
-Direct Reports to ensure high individual and team performance
-Buyers and Merchandisers to ensure collaborative team working
-Designers to ensure accurate interpretation of product and trend information
-UK Quality team to ensure timely feedback mechanism

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

-At least 5 - 7 years sourcing & merchandising experience across Asia Pacific Region with relevant product development skills
-Previously managerial experience in international Buying Office in HK is essential
-Strong negotiation and influencing skills
-High standard of spoken and written English
-Strong planning and organizational skills
-Able to lead and motivate the team to achieve high performance
-Champions what is right for the business, team and customer
-Able to work across a wide range of geographies and cultures
-Good working knowledge PowerPoint, Excel and Word
-Have experience handling small quantity
-Have sourcing experience in different countries
-Mainly sourcing in Shanghai and Dhaka
