The Position
Title: Product/Process Development Manager
Report: Continuous Improvement Manager


The Challenge

Key areas of accountability/responsibility for New Product Introductions
1. Scaling-up of New Products, developed by R&D as agreed. In feasibility /development phase, the PDE/PDM is involved as member of the development team. In the scaling-up phase, the PDE/PDM takes care (or organizes) for:
? Listing/approval of raw materials (via MOC)
? Administration of Product Specification Sheets
? Appropriate Configuration of SAP
? Production planning (of trial runs)
? Development/Administration of Work instructions
? Preparation and Guidance of trial runs and ensuring the right quality
? Evaluation and reporting of the outcome of the trial runs (with recommendations for next steps / follow-up)transfer/ hand over to the (regular) production function of New Product Introduction with a proven track record of Manufacturability from trial runs (Cpk of parameters critical to quality > 1,33)
? Ensure full adherence to the APQP procedure (QS9000)
2. Participates in various meetings.
3. Investigating, initiating (via issuance/approval of Product Development Request, PDR), executing, reporting of improvements on Products and Processes
4. Participating in Projects for Building of New Assets c.q. Rebuilding of Existing Assets. In these projects, the PDE/PDM (acting as process engineer), is responsible for the technological aspects of the new – or rebuild.
5. Key areas of accountability/responsibility to SHE
? Ensuring relevant SHE aspects are accounted for in upscaling of New Product Introductions (incl. Color developments) (R)
? Determining of recipes (Key Operating Parameters, Operating Windows, Out of Control Action Plans, (automated) Control procedures, ...) for production, accounting for all SHE aspects (R).
? Ensure all SHE aspects are accounted for in a timely manner and are assessed/verified by a multi-disciplinary team (S)
? Make optimal use of all utilities and minimize waste streams (S).
? Radiate (internally and externally) a positive attitude towards SHE, comply with all relevant SHE guidelines and requirements, aiming for preventing unsafe situations. Where relevant and necessary, raising and executing on options for savings/improvements. (R)

Key areas of accountability/responsibility for New Process Introductions
1. Conducts Feasibility and Conceptual Engineering Studies and Design for Technical/Technological Improvements for Capacity & Capability Extension outside the proven window of design c.q. operation.
2. Supports (cyclic) HAZOP/PSA’s for (Existing and) New Product and/or Process Introductions.
3. Supports Production in second line Trouble shooting and RCA’s for reoccurring c.q. major performance killers in Production.
4. Consults/informs Global Technology Management for any New Process Introduction and Best Practice Identification and Exchange where relevant/applicable, the roles associated with this function are (to be) listed in Training Compass.


The Ideal
? Higher Vocational level (Bsc/Msc) in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry (or mechanical engineering)
? Experience/Expertise in (plastics) Processing Industry
? Acquainted with Technical Marketing and Research Function
? Acquainted with ERP systems (SAP), Laboratory Information Systems), Manufacturing Execution Systems (Aspen,...), Office Automation Systems (Microsoft Office,...)
? Acquainted with APQP procedures
? Knowledgeable (in quantitative and/or qualitative terms) of relation between Customer Development Requirements Parameters Critical to Quality (product specification) (key) Operating Parameters (Quality Function Deployment and Design for Manufacturability)
? Acquainted with principles of DOE (Design of Experiments) and FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis)
? Acquainted with Technology/Chemical Engineering Principles of Compounding, Drying, Solid State Postcondensation, Polycondensation (of Polyesters and Polyamides)
? Acquainted with Polymer Processing (injection moulding, blow moulding, extrusion, ....of Engineering Plastics
? Acquainted with Analytical Methods for quality control of engineering plastics properties (mechanical, chemical, physical, optical, textural, organoleptic,...)
? Acquainted with relevant SHE-aspects for regular and new products, raw materials, etc...
? Radiating (internally and externally) an positive/inspiring attitude on SHE by complying with governing guidelines and requirements, geared towards preventing unsafe situations.
? Where relevant and necessary addressing options for savings and improvements
? Radiating a continuous improvement culture mindset & behavior
? Minimum 5 years of experience in Process Engineering Function (Daily Engineer) in production or Polymer Reaction Engineer/Chemical Engineer/Chemists in R&D or Material Science Engineer in MSC
? Around 3 years team leading background
? Proficient communication and coordination skills
? Fluent English ability
? Teamwork in multidisciplinary set-up
