Title : Design Engineer – Appliance Customers

Location : Shanghai

Reporting : Senior Design Manager

The Company : A US-based manufacturer of wire harnesses, power cords, wire leads and electro-mechanical assemblies

Job Summary :

? Provide on-site design engineering support with respect to current, future and advanced model wire harness and assembly requirements
? Provide on-site supplier involvement in all product-related design, development, manufacturing and quality requirements

Responsibilities:

? Review projects to help develop project plans to meet customer expectations and assist in defining and maintaining customer project schedules
? Oversee the management of current and future model/model line releases to ensure on-time program milestones are met; conduct preliminary design investigations for new programs/models and assist with defining and planning design projects and approaches to be investigated (current/new value added assemblies)
? Oversee the coordination of engineering projects between customer and manufacturing plants
? Design wiring harnesses and assemblies to meet customer design criteria - 3D modelling and routing in Pro/Engineer maybe required
? Create design concepts using 3D CAD system or manually and provide detailed component/assembly drawings
? Communicate preliminary designs, drawings, and sample requirements. Communicate prototype quotations (cost and timing); coordinate delivery of samples to the customer
? Participate in design review with customer lab, engineering, and production people prior to design / print release, receive / issue letter of findings
? Complete or coordinate the release of drawings using EN system according to established schedule
? Communicate Release of Drawings and pre-production schedule and requirements to established distribution
? Host internal Weekly Project Reviews and help keep project design status & progress on track
? Submit monthly reports on project activity and status
? Collaborate, respond and communicate to internal teams and customer personnel regarding issue identification, resolution, & implementation
? Assist in development and testing of other engineering projects
? Assist in coordinating performance analysis on new components and designs
? Provide customer assistance at users’ plants for Production Validation runs and problem-solving
? Champion cost reduction activities to ensure customer TCP expectations are met
? Support other activities (quality, manufacturing) with customers, wherever possible including travel to various locations
? Represent the company at internal customer engineering meetings and report back to assembly plants as necessary
? Help to identify new business opportunities and aid in steering to the most profitable/highest potential opportunities

Requirements:

? Bachelors-level degree in either Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering; technical diploma or equivalent experience will be considered
? Minimum of 2 years of Wiring Harness or Appliance manufacturing experience
? Experience with 2D design required (Autocad, Cadkey or Similar); experience with 3D preferred
? Ability to manage, organize and communicate on multiple program events such that engineering objectives are met
? Ability to formulate and implement solutions to design problems
? Good understanding of design procedures and specifications relating to appliance development
? Ability to work on own in customer’s site and manage one’s own time is a must
? Effective communication skills, written and verbal - Fluent Mandarin and well-functioning English & Cantonese speaking ability. Must be highly effective at writing in all of these languages. Some Japanese ability would be an additional asset but not required.
