Background/Job Purpose:

The senior research scientist plays key role in evaluating and modeling China hospital clinical quality outcomes, and instrumental in design and development of such systems. The senior research scientist position requires someone with comprehensive knowledge in the field of predictive modeling, data analysis, statistical and machine learning, and data mining methodologies, as well as extensive pharmaceutical, medical or clinical knowledge or experience.

Key Result Areas

• Analyze and model large hospital inpatient clinical and financial databases, including diagnosis, procedures, medicine, prescriptions, labs and exams, cost and billing data.
• Establish benchmarks for clinical quality outcomes, treatments and process measures
• Maintain, update and enhance existing severity-adjustment models and other analytical applications
• Research and develop new models for severity adjustment and quality outcome evaluation
• Research and implement/programming predictive modeling algorithms
• Collaborate, facilitate and guide (as needed) clinical quality indicator and measure research team, and business intelligence system developers and report designers.
• Seek and identify issues, patterns and trends in large complex data
• Provide analytical and consulting services to team members and clients
• Recommend, select and implement computing tools needed for modeling
• Follow research trends and methodologies in clinical quality outcome research, both domestic and international
• Work together with scientists and colleagues globally to design and develop first-class clinical analytics products
• Analyze client data, modeling results, reports, etc., to ensure models, software, and reports works correctly
• Be part of the production and consulting and client service process, and act as gate-keeper
• Support product management, marketing and sales
• Define/Plan/Design/Implement new product features/models, ensure creative ideas and best research goes into the models/products

General Knowledge and Technical Skills:

• Creative, passionate, ambitious, sharp and hardworking. Independent, quick learner with strong desire to excel and lead.
• Both a team player and leader, with strong sense of responsibility/ownership and vision.
• Master degree required, Ph.D. degree preferred. Combined degrees from one or more of the following areas or other related disciplines, medicine, medical informatics, statistics, mathematics, computer science or other quantitative disciplines.
• Combined education and work experience in medical/clinical fields, statistics, statistical and machine learning, and software development
• Experience with statistical modeling and machine learning, data mining
• Proficiency in at least one programming language, including C/C++/C#, Java, R or SAS
• Knowledge or experience in hypothesis testing, regression, classification, cluster analysis, decision trees, neural nets, SVM, time series, outlier identification, genetic algorithms, etc.
• Comfortable working with large or extreme large datasets
• At least combined two year working experience in one or more of the following fields: clinical or management/IT position at a large hospital; complex data mining/machine learning project with decent size data (more than 100 variables,100,000 rows); business intelligence software development or reporting.
• Sharp, deep analytical thinker and hands-on problem solver, comfortable and capable of analyze large data sets, extreme attention to details
• Not a pure clinical trial statistician or epidemiologist.
