THE ROLE
The engineering Director, Chief engineer and Department Managers operate as a team to maintain a centre of excellence in the design and development of all types of transmissions.
The Senior design engineer’s role within the above hierarchy is to take an active part in forming part of a design team, usually although not exclusively reporting to a Department manager/Chief/lead design engineer.
On a day to day basis Senior design engineers operate with some degree of autonomy and have a responsibility for supporting the quality of the work undertaken within the design team.
Occasionally it will be necessary for him/her to act in the lead design engineer’s role in communicating with all the active team members and occasionally with the client.
Key Responsibilities
？ Deliver high quality design solutions associated with the design of all types of transmissions
？ Undertake the above utilising the CAD tools available to the project at the time which includes
？ Have a high degree of expertise in CAD solid modelling with one of CAD software of UG, CATIA and Pro-E
？ Converting the models to manufacturing drawings to a standard expected of the automotive industry
？ Check other persons drawing and modelling output to the expectation of the client and internal Ricardo standards.
？ Liaise with clients and other organisations.
PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
Skills
？ Min 7 years experience of transmission systems design
？ Familiar with transmission project development procedure, DFMEA, DVP, etc.
？ Familiar with transmission components manufacturing processes such like, casting, forging, moulding, machining etc
？ Previous experience in 2 or more design tools is essential (among UG, Pro-E and CATIA)
？ Ability to communicate in a team is essential
？ Proficient in English and Mandarin languages (written and spoken) for project and technical communication

？ Strong information transfer and inter-personal skills
？ Focused on delivering results and working as an integral part of a project team
？ Being able to work under pressure and self-manage own time deadlines
？ Willingness to do some travel (within China and possibly abroad)
Knowledge
？ Senior Design engineer will be graduate mechanical engineers who have been involved in all aspects of the design of transmissions and will probably have gained some specialist knowledge of a particular area of the industry
？ Understanding of transmission, engine and vehicle concepts and operation
？ He/She will be highly motivated self starters who will be able to operate in a team environment and have good communication and presentation skills
