Job Description
The Desktop Support Specialist provides day-to-day support to meet the IT needs of faculty, staff members and students for the NYU Shanghai offices and student dormitories on the ECNU Campus.
The Desktop Support Specialist will report to the Associate Director of Client Services. The position’s responsibilities require independent analyses, communication, problem solving, initiative and judgment.
Responsibilities:
Set up, configure, maintain and troubleshoot Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac OS desktop and laptop computers
? Set up, configure, and troubleshoot Microsoft Windows, Apple iOS, Blackberry OS and Google Android based tablets and smart phones
? Set up and configure printers, scanners, and other peripherals; update firmware and drivers periodically
? Basic network configuration and troubleshooting
? Support the use of audio visual equipment in conference rooms, and the use of conference applications on end users’ computers
? Document issue resolution using the help desk ticketing system
? Maintain LAN/WAN records, inventory and warranty of all hardware and software resources and parts
? Establish standards, guidelines and protocols.
? Work with outside vendors as needed
? Log and respond to issues on the University ticketing system
Required Skills and abilities
? Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical people
? Ability to recognize, analyze, and effectively solve problems in a timely and organized manner
The successful candidate will have the following experience or knowledge in the following areas:
? 3+ years with setup, configuration, troubleshooting of desktop/notebook hardware and software (Windows and Mac OS) as well as iOS devices, in a networked environment
? Experience supporting a variety of WiFi-enabled devices
? Extensive experience with the Microsoft Office product suite (Excel, Word, Power Point, Visio).
? Google applications (Gmail, Calendar, Docs/Drive, Groups, Sites)
? Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking (e.g. DNS, DHCP)
? Some knowledge of Active Directory concepts and administration
? Must be physically able to lift up to 30 pounds
? Experience working in a structured, process-driven environment
? Fluency in Mandarin
? Ability to communicate in English, orally and in writing.
Preferred:
? Previous work in an academic environment
? Experience supporting remote users
