Job Objective:

Support for the growth of the PSR (Phenolics Specialty Chemicals) business in Asia Pacific, with focus on Friction, Abrasive and Refractory applications
Provide direct laboratory support to Asia Pacific TS&DTechnology Manager.
Apply global R&D work processes and testing.
The type of support provided will include:
o Start-up Shanghai laboratory
o Purchasing and maintaining equipment
o Formulation and application testing.
o Reporting results in timely manner
o Ordering, storage and safe wasting of chemicals and materials.
o Maintaining high levels of safety standards and house keeping in the laboratory


Essential Functions:

? As a result of having broad and deep understanding of thermosetting technology, ideally relevant to PSR segments (and preferably Friction and Abrasive segments) as well as industry knowledge and sound business knowledge, helps to define and solve problems and/or identify opportunities.
? Provides expert support and advice to broad Asia Pacific customer base with focus on key strategic customers in China, on technical issues in line with customer needs and the regional marketing priorities and tactics.
? Interacts with Asia Pacific and global peers in marketing, sales to ensure alignment on solving customer problems.
? Maintains on-going and effective communication with global PSR technology contacts and fully adopts the use of key communication and project management tools (technical reports, visit reports, PRiSM).
? Grows technical market or manufacturing expertise through customer contacts, reading literature and conference/industry body participation.
? Collects market, manufacturing, or competitor intelligence or supports complex market intelligence studies and processes this information into proposals for potential R&D projects/market plans. Drives forward and helps implement development opportunities.
? Identifies customer needs through active listening, conducts voice of customer analysis, determines justification, and then outlines next steps. Depending on the complexity of the inquiry, he/she will seek advice internally regarding answer/next steps.
? Translates customers’ specific performance targets into application development (polymer, formulation and application) targets.
? Defines and executes experimental plans in line with local capabilities and high impact customer-related technical support projects, critically reviews the results, and then communicates results to the customer.
? For technical objectives which can not be met with local capabilities, liaises with R&D colleagues in Louisville and Letmathe to coordinate efforts.
? Presents and explains technical product/project details to customers.
? Writes technical reports and visit reports in a timely fashion, using global standards and tools.
? Builds and effectively uses industry-wide network inside and outside his/her own organization.
? Prepares presentations / papers for in- and external customers and industry gatherings.
? Maintains timely, accurate lab books in order to provide the records required to properly execute/address all IP questions and needs and to safeguard experimental data.
? Interacts with peers and customers with professionalism and respect.
? Acts within boundaries agreed upon with supervisor.
? Contributes to others’ projects in a proactive manner.
? Carries out activities living up to EH&S standards and appreciating business impact.


Qualifications:

? Bachelor or above, chemical related major.
? Significant experience in Thermosetting applications, sound knowledge of phenolics, experience on Friction, Abrasive and Refractory applications would be highly appreciated
? Good communication skills, both in Chinese and English, as candidate will have opportunity to take training courses overseas.
? 2 years relevant industry experience preferred
? Good lab experimental skills
