As a Sr. Mechanical Development Lead, you will be leading and managing a team of mechanical engineers responsible for all aspects of mechanical engineering related to our high volume consumer electronics product design, including generation of innovative product concepts, definition of mechanical architecture and managing plastics processing/tooling engineering to achieve the highest mechanical cosmetic standards. You will work with multiple disciplines both in China and the U.S. including ID, Usability Research, EE, Plastics Engineering, Reliability Engineering, and other in-house or contract engineers to define and document the product mechanical design, write technical specifications, lead design reviews, and manage development partners to deliver the final manufacturing-ready mechanical designs, following Microsoft’s product development processes and best practices.
Qualified candidates should be technically excellent with good English communication skill, be a confident communicator, and possess a proven ability to work well with global teams and across functional groups. Other attribute we are looking for in this position also includes good understanding of program management. Most importantly, the candidate must have a proven record of leading a team to successfully deliver complicated mechanical design through the entire product development process from front-end conceptual phase all the way to mass production, and can bring technical depth to mechanical engineering problem-solving with a team of senior engineering professionals.
This position will also be expected to achieve the project goals by leveraging vendor engineering and other supporting resources. Prior experience in a supervisory and preferably a leadership role and with people management responsibility of no less than 3 years is required.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 10 years of demonstrated work experience in consumer electronics mechanical design and qualification, preferably in the consumer electronics and personal computer industry, is required.
- Proven record of leading design team with the ability to constantly raise the quality of technical deliverables for highly complex design is a must.
- A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline is required at a minimum; Master’s degree preferred.
- Proficiency in management of CAD design tools like Pro Engineer, including complex organic surfacing. This proficiency should be demonstrated in leading teams responsible for the design completion of a consumer electronic product within the last year.
- General knowledge of injection molding and metal stamping tooling design and construction as well as molding processing is required; knowledge of optic design in consumer electronic products is a plus.
- Excellent English communication skill, Chinese language is a plus.
- Knowledge of program management best practices and experience of successfully manage mechanical development activities on time and within cost constraints is a must.
- The ability to concurrently manage multiple design activities and development schedules.
- Passionate, motivated and self-driven.
- Position requires domestic and international travel (mainly to the U.S.)
