The Learning Support program includes the following areas:

1. Reading support focused on reading decoding, fluency, and comprehension
2. Learning skills support focused on helping students with basic academic skills development
3. Speech support to help students in the areas of voice, articulation, fluency, and oral language
4. Language support to help students in the areas of vocabulary, spelling, grammar, listening skills, comprehension strategies, and the organization of ideas
5. Gifted support to provide students with appropriate levels of challenge and support

The responsibilities of the Learning Support teacher include:

1. Identifying the learning needs of individual students
2. Creating Individual Learning Plans
3. Providing or coordinating in-class support
4. Providing or coordinating one-on-one support
5. Keeping classroom teachers and teacher assistants informed of the needs of students in their classes
6. Guiding classroom teachers and teacher assistants in using appropriate teaching strategies
7. Leading professional development on Learning Support
8. Working with the Admissions team to clarify support needed for new students
9. Producing reports for individual students as needed
10. Communicating effectively with parents
11. Providing referrals to outside specialists as needed
12. Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of global best practices in Learning Support

Academic qualifications:

1. Bachelors degree
2. ESL certification

Work experience:

1. At least 5 years of experience in classrooms as a teacher
2. Experience working as a Learning Support teacher
3. Experience working with students of different English speaking levels
4. Experience working in a multi-cultural environment
