The British International School Shanghai, Puxi Campus is looking for an exceptional teacher and leader to take on the responsibility for the delivery of the teaching of Chinese throughout the school. This important post provides significant responsibility, and will require the successful candidate to work closely with and under the direction of the school leadership team. The role of Head of Mandarin requires the ability to consider critically how Mandarin can be taught most effectively to students from all around the world. A willingness to engage with educational pedagogies from both Europe and Asia is a key requirement of the post.

Supporting, developing and monitoring a team of teachers is an important part of the role. As the person responsible overall for Chinese teaching, you will manage the team directly and indirectly through the Head of Primary Mandarin and the Head of Secondary Mandarin. You will report to, and work closely with, the Vice Principal, who is responsible for the school’s overall academic programmes.

To be successful in this role you will need to be:

A qualified and experienced teacher and curriculum leader;

Bilingual in Chinese and English;

Familiar with how teaching works in an international school;

Able to work well with and liaise with local schools and the municipal authorities;

Confident working with children and young adults;

An excellent communicator;

Able to get on well with colleagues, students and parents;

Well organised;

Enthusiastic and positive;

Good with technology;

It would be helpful if you had specific experience working in a school that followed a UK curriculum.
