The role will involve qualifying and auditing the suppliers, monitoring the performance and initiating the performance improvement activities for the strategic suppliers and working closely with the EM category managers globally to contribute to the Emerging Market sourcing strategy from quality perspective. The person will also be responsible from resolving the critical quality issues of the global suppliers within the category and leading the critical parts/materials approval process standardization at global level following APQP methodology.
The SQM will be reporting to the Global Supply Quality and Development manager and will be based in China.
- Evaluate the qualification assessment forms and align on corrective action plan with the suppliers and follow-up the resolution.
- Plan and conduct the required supplier on-site audits including assessment reporting, corrective action plan alignment with the suppliers. Verify the effective closure of corrective action plan items by the supplier side.
- Participate in the supplier sustainability audits and verify the closure of corrective action plan items by the supplier within defined resolution date.
- Lead the production part approval process for the new supplier parts/materials including the coordination of trial parts and first article inspection activities with the receiving factory quality. Perform required product surveillance / inspection at supplier manufacturing site before shipping to customer regions.
- Lead the non-conformity resolution process with the suppliers in case of the escalated technical issues from the factories and ensure the effective root-cause analysis and the countermeasure implementation by the suppliers.
- Monitor and consolidate the supplier delivery and quality KPI’s, the critical non-conformities escalated from the factories. Identify the top concern suppliers within the region or specific category. Conduct Supplier Performance Evaluations (SPE) for the identified suppliers by the category management.
- Lead the supplier performance improvement actions for the targeted suppliers to meet the customer and the ABB factories’ expectations (following DMAIC and/or 8D methodology).
- Implement PG/PGTR supply quality procedures within the assigned responsibility area. Develop/issue the specific supplier and part/material quality related procedures within the EM region. Ensure the appropriate utilization of the SBM tools within the EM Supply Quality organization.
- Closely collaborate with the Category teams to support the implementation of Category strategy and achieve cost saving through sourcing from qualified suppliers from EM region. Function as liaison between SCM, Technology, Quality and Operations and the Suppliers to prioritize supplier development needs at global level.
- Complete special quality and continuous improvement projects such as Advanced Product Quality Planning, Lean Six Sigma, supplier manuals, etc. in line with the yearly BU SQ targets.

- A Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in one of the disciplines: mechanical, electrical, material or production engineering (or similar technical discipline).
- More than 5 years of experience in relevant quality assurance/control, manufacturing, supplier development or similar operational experience in the field of transformer components, automotive or similar industries.
- Previous experience with some of the following processes is advantage: metal fabrication, sheet metal processing, machining, casting, bushing production, conductor foil and wire production, surface protection processes.
- Good understanding of ISO 3834, EN 1090, etc., management system and additional industry specific certifications (e.g.: AWS, IWE, corrosion protection inspection, etc.) is a plus.
- Experience working with Process Improvement and/or Continuous Improvement practices (e.g. Kaizen, DMAIC, A3, 8D, 5Why Analysis, etc.).
- Proven experience with the process audits, APQP/PPAP, P-FMEA, Process Control Plan, Statistical Process Control and inspection test plan creation.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills and ability to create a collaborative environment for accomplishing project objectives.
- Familiarity with ISO-9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards and external auditor certification is a plus.
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt is plus.
- Willingness to travel approximately 50% and fluency in English both written and spoken.
