Role: Responsible for collaborating with the Classroom Teacher on the supervision and management of the class, implementation of the school’s curriculum, and planning and teaching daily Mandarin lessons.

Reports to: Chinese Curriculum Coordinator and Principal

Responsibilities:

Daily Program and Curriculum

? Actively support the school’s mission, vision, and values

? Collaborate with the classroom teacher to plan, teach and review school’s curriculum

? Collaborate with the classroom teacher to plan and prepare the learning environment, set up learning centers, and prepare needed materials and supplies

? Plan and teach Chinese curriculum

? Establish Chinese portfolio for students to record student’s learning experiences

? Complete the Chinese language sections of school reports

? Participate in Chinese curriculum meetings and grade level meetings

? Collaborate with the classroom teacher to create documentation boards

? Interact with children throughout the day, including modeling, conversing, playing, and sitting with children; quality interactions and showing interest supports student learning

? Provide extra support to children with special needs, such as non- English speaking students and those with physical and mental disabilities

? Support single-subject teacher to supervise and promote activities designed to enhance student’s emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development

? Participate in parent/student conferences

? Promote positive communication with colleagues, parents, and school communities

? Follow policies and procedures outlined in Teacher Handbooks

Other Duties

? Attend all required staff meetings and recommended training workshops

? Participate in HQIS school events including Family Picnic, Earth Day, CNY, etc.

? Carry out additional school assigned duties (i.e. traffic duty, etc.)

? Sub for the Classroom Teacher when they are sick or on personal leave, if necessary

? Assist the Chinese Coordinators with designing and aligning curriculum

? Maintain a professional attitude and loyalty to HQIS at all times

? Ensure independence is encouraged and supported

? Be positive; create a welcoming environment for all students and families

Qualifications:

Knowledge

? Excellent spoken and written English communication skills

? Well established cooperating skills

Experience

? At least one year of teaching experience

? At least one year teaching Chinese as a second language experience

Education/Certification

? Bachelor degree in Education

? Teaching certification from an accredited institution preferred

Welcome to HQIS

HQIS first opened its doors as an international school in 1997 in the Shanghai Zoo with just 2 classes and 18 students.

Since then, the student population has increased and the physical facilities have expanded such that HQIS-RBIS has been at a full capacity of 400 students since 2010.
Today, HQIS is now celebrating its move to a new purpose-built campus in the Gubei are of shanghai with more plans for growth.

HQIS continues to evolve. For almost two decades, the early childhood program has been a hallmark of international education for students in the city. HQIS will graduate its first high school class in the year 2020.
