Primary Focus:
Strategic technical support to assure the highest level of customer satisfaction. Serves as a highly knowledgeable technical resource to assure ongoing transfer of product/platform knowledge to customers and other engineers. Create/utilize automated technology and instrumentation to diagnose, document, and resolve/avoid customer issues.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
The Principal Support Engineer is an expert member of the technical problem solving/problem avoidance team, routinely sought after to address extremely complex, critical customer issues. Services may be frequently provided by on-site customer visits. In-depth support is also provided by electronic means. The Principal Support Engineer performs the assigned duties with a high level of autonomy and reports to management on technical task progress.
Example of Duties:
· Resolves very complex or previously unknown problems requiring high level technical expertise and business acumen
· Serves as situation manager on highly sensitive proactive and reactive customer issues
· Creates/utilizes automated technical instrumentation to diagnose, document, and resolve customer issues.
· Responsible for backlog management, including opened and closed SR reviews
· Consults with customers on complex use of Oracle products
· Consults with management in directing resolution of critical customer situations
· Participates on a Problem Avoidance Architecture (PAA) team as an Analysis and/or Content member
· Provides feedback to improve product quality/functionality (i.e., Problem Avoidance Architecture (PAA)), instrumentation and/or writes scripts (i.e., remote diagnostic agent (RDA), etc.)
· Interacts with development on a conceptual and advanced troubleshooting level
· Develops RAS (reliability, availability, serviceability) requirements with/for development
· Achieves knowledge transfer with teammates through: Development and Delivery of Formal Team Training sessions/Brown Bags, Formal Mentoring, Creation/Review of Knowledge Respository Articles
· Promotes the technical and professional development of others. Is a mentor to senior engineers
· Participates in Beta programs
· Participates in product/platform regression testing
· Analyzes work load, determines best practices and implements changes to improve productivity
· May interface with Global or Regional Planners for support readiness
Qualifications:
Degree Level & Equivalent Measures:
· Technical degree i.e., BS Computer Science/Management Information Systems/Science /Engineering/ Math/Physics/Chemistry OR proven relevant years professional/ technical experience (preferably Oracle) would take the place of a degree OR (for Applications) functional (e.g., BA finance) degree with higher level technical degree/appropriate work experience OR (for Applications) proven professional/ technical experience i.e., demonstrates an understanding of Applications at a functional and technical level, (preferably Oracle). At this level relevant experience has a higher weighting than degree.
· Accredited university; minimum 3.0 overall GPA
Experience:
Technical
· Greater than 7 years experience for Core; greater than 8 years for Apps
· Work experience with Oracle and non-Oracle products and technologies including: Database Technologies, Internet Technologies, Rapid Application Development (RAD) Tools, Operating Systems, Programming Languages, ERP and CRM systems. Experience in Beta Testing New Product Rollout and Content Generation.
Functional (for Applications)
· At this level candidates need applications technical knowledge but also a depth of technical knowledge to include Unix, NT, relational and hierarchical database, languages (i.e., C++, Java, SQL, etc.)
