Job Description

Position: Application Specialist, Starter Culture

Department: Nutrition & Bioscience

Reporting To: Group Manager, Senior Application Specialist – Probiotics, Culture and Food protection

Location: Shanghai


Job Purpose:

  1. Strong expertise in yoghurt and fermented milk area. Work experience mainly need for R&D, new product development, technical service, trouble shooting for fresh fermented industry.
  2. Follow culture and Dairy enzyme business target, will response new product launch process, measure and create test data, deliver test report and push new product commercialization and success for business.
  3. Many business travels to visit customers, great skill and experience to introduce product tech-nology, demoits, total solution, and good communication skill to order customer projects for solution making. Also, will visit factories have technical service, training QC and production works, make trouble shooting and support pilot launch plan.
  4. Strong technical connection for R&D of dairy company, deliver solution from special needs about start culture, develop customized culture blend to meet customer’s needs.
  5. Continuous improvement for start culture and probiotics application technology and knowledge, got ahead of the competition.

Support China quickly business growth of starter culture, probiotics and dairy enzyme business, also extend non-dairy fermented products.

Develop and transfer new technology through DuPont’s N&B global network, provide profes-sional guidance to assist specialist and team manager.


Major Responsibilities:

  1. Carry out day to day laboratory duties, as well as TSR and TSR project work in laboratory and at customers’ premises.
  2. Plan and execute where appropriate scientific work including designing of experiments to sup-port the technical needs of the project. Design functional system solution as per request from customer.
  3. Develop the application know-how and solution for the use hydrocolloid, emulsifier, starter cul-ture, sweeteners etc. products in targeted fermented application area.
  4. Focus on technical service for Key Accounts. Establish and maintains excellent customer rela-tionships, especially at a technical level.
  5. Complete preparation of technical presentations, project plans, technology proposals and reports for internal and external communication. Ability to execute a customer seminar independently.
  6. Liaise with team members to ensure prioritization and co-ordination of experimental work.
  7. Take many business travels to visit customers, great skill and experience to introduce product technology, demo-kits, total solution, and good communication skill to order customer projects for solution making. Also, will visit factories have technical service, training QC and production works, make trouble shooting and support pilot launch plan.


Qualifications:

  1. Minimum MSc. in Food Science or Food Engineering, 5~8 years technical experience in dairy company or food ingredients company;
  2. Strong dairy technical experience in R&D or production in Fresh fermented Dairy applications especially in dairy fermented area;
  3. Knowledge in ingredients and product formulation experience is essential;
  4. Strong communication skills (including technical communication). Ability to communicate to clients the key technical points and have the commercial selling concept;
  5. Must be able to work independently on multiple projects and drive project move ahead. Take lead to work on the project and own the project from start to completion;
  6. Strong trouble shooting skills with the ability to analyze the problem and adjust the approach ac-cordingly;
  7. Strong report preparation / presentation skills;
  8. Fluent in English (verbal and written);
  9. Ability to work in a team and make significant contributions to developing a variety of new sys-tem blends for dairy fermented application;
  10. Must be able to work on multiple projects and deliver results;
  11. Willingness to travel.
