Job Description

Your role as Head of Sourcing and Merchandising will include:

Primary Responsibilities:

Team Management

• Be able to communicate high level strategies to the Directors & Senior Managers with the mind set to be flexible and agile in monitoring success and failure and adapt the strategy accordingly to ensure targets are met with in tight time frames. Bringing strategies for change as a result of market or trading outcomes.
• Working closely with your line manager the GM, understanding the business priorities and supporting the business growth. You will be able to step up and deputize for the GM as he deems appropriate and as the business requires.
• Work with MADE UK product management and merchandising teams to help set ambitious and realistic targets in terms of new product development and extension of our product ranges
• Identify any problems and ensure fast paced problem-solving strategies for key projects and ensure team priorities delivery of high profile and designer projects
• You will be responsible for managing the Sourcing & Merchandising team and for monitoring our supplier’s progress and service levels, delivery accuracy and negotiating the most favorable trading terms as well as the best cost prices and margins for MADE identifying and following up where we place the business and re-sourcing where applicable to make profit gains
• You will need to groom & coach the SH Merchandising team to enhance work efficiency, product knowledge, process, and communication and negotiation skills.
• You will need to lead by example, have a ‘hands on’ approach and have demonstrated in your previous roles that you have strong people development, management and collaboration skills. Supplier Management

• You will involve managing the research and audit of new suppliers in China and will propose major, minor supply routes to optimize those routes for all categories the business chooses to trade in.

• Travelling to visit trade fairs and new and existing suppliers in China and identify trends and key suppliers for new collections
• Develop all new OEM product development projects in-house developments and external designer’s projects and manage each project through to completion by specific deadline -  briefing, supplier’s placement, sample ordering, sample reviewing and sample sign off.
• Working closely with internal and external parties you will ensure on time product development tasks: set up a development timeframe and tracking system to ensure all projects following the agreed timeframe and product launch date
• Evaluate supplier’s production capability: allocate each project for suitable suppliers by liaising with each merchandiser and agreeing with all parties in SH and UK including, PD, product, design & quality colleagues.

• Travelling to visit new and existing suppliers will be a key part of the role and you will be expected to do this on a regular basis. You will deal with a wide range of suppliers, our in-house teams and manufacturers to develop one of the best furniture, lighting and homewares ranges on the market
• Be the key negotiator and problem solver for any claims or issues with the supply base, ensuring fair recompense is collected in a timely manner

• Negotiate the best trading terms, cost prices and MOQ to meet the business needs

Inter-department Collaboration

• Ensure ERP, Procurement system, Trackers and related disciplines and maintenance are executed accurately and timely
• Assist in the organizing the most time efficient buying & sourcing trips for UK teams, trade fairs, and the like
• Escalate issues to UK team to help promote joint resolutions
• Help PQT/PQI team to communicate and improve supplier product quality
• Be the conduit in building the collaboration between suppliers and UK/SH teams aiding communication and championing the proactive approach to problem solving and resolution

what you will need

• 8-10 years of experience in international trade, supply chain management or business management from a qualified university
• Minimum 10 years working experience managing China based sourcing and merchandising teams, and suppliers for a B2C (internet or e-commerce based), international retail, manufacturing or trading company.
• Familiar with the UK and Europe home furnishing market and trends
• Minimum 8 years working experience in the home furnishings, lighting and furniture areas
• Great organizational and planning skills
• Ability to prioritize and multitask and deliver at a pace
• Very capable manager with strong people skills and you lead from the front by example, you have an aptitude for collaboration and building effective teams
• Possesses keen ability to create, improve, implement and follow standard operating procedures (SOP’s)
• Innovative, determined individual
• Have strong integrity, a balanced and measured approach but have the pace to be able to work effectively under pressure
• Fluent in both English and Chinese, written and spoken.
• Solid knowledge of ERP logic, systems, implementation with an emphasis on supply chain related ERP modules
• Solid knowledge of factory cost structures including materials, labors and overhead
• Extensive knowledge of product sourcing strategies
• Outstanding supplier negotiation skills
• Extensive MS office skill with a key emphasis on MS excel
• Be a strong team leader, measured in your approach
• Excellent attention to detail
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to make major decisions
