Title: Software Engineer

Reports to: Director, technology, Asia Pacific

Location: Shanghai, China

I. Purpose of Position

Apex Tool Group’s revenue size globally is US$1.6b, about 8,800 employees, and its operations are located over 30 countries around the world. Its headquarters is Sparks, Maryland USA (North of Baltimore)

The region - Asia has 2 businesses – Hand Tools and Power Tools with about 4,000 employees located in 16 separate sites and locations. They are namely in China – Shanghai, Shandong, Suzhou, Taiwan - Taichung, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, India. Manufacturing plants are in Shanghai, Shandong, Suzhou and Taichung, Taiwan.

The organization – R&D Asia pacific has 3 footprints including Shanghai, Taichung and Suzhou, with functions of design engineering, project management and industrial design.

This newly created Technology Director Position is a key role within R&D organization to provide leadership for technology development and innovation in Asia Pacific region for APEX tool group.

II. Key Responsibilities

The role will focus on software and delivering sustainable even strategically innovation to fulfill Asia Pacific R&D team and ensure R&D support long term growth of APEX Tool Group by creating technology and innovation leadership in the market.

- Perform the analysis, design, programming, testing, troubleshooting and modifying of software products and/or customer applications on computer based systems

- Performs systems modeling, simulation, and analysis in designing assemblers, lines, compilers, and operation systems utilities

- Determine methods and procedures on new assignments, may provide guidance to other personnel, and participate in planning on larger programs

- Understand system and software requirements, jointly define software feature building blocks according to platform setup and availability

- Closely work with firmware/hardware engineers design, verification till release

- Closely work with firmware/hardware engineers in test case definition and bug fixing and perform software test

- Closely work with architect (Product owner) in architecture fulfillment and development

- Learn and adopt continuous improvement mindset to pursue operational excellence to deliver software on time with world class quality.

- Work with global software development team on common code base, platforms and common building blocks, and roadmap

- Responsible for the product technical documentation: product release report (focus: design part), documents: follow/ endorse department working procedures.

- Arrange smooth technology and knowledge transfer (mainly after SR) to SQA, process engineers and supplier.

- Design and development of the test framework and of integration setup

- Develop solution towards continuous integration and delivery environment

- Improve and innovate on continuous integration approach

- Work independently and can cooperate with global development team.

- Very good design integrity

- Collaborate with experience designers to establish, maintain and communicate descriptions of users, personas, and experience pillars.

III. Requirement

- Master or doctor degree of software engineering, 3+ years’ experience on software development.

- Excellent knowledge of software programming language C, C++ and C#

- Strong experience in software programming based on Microsoft Visual Studio and code optimization.

- Low level programming experience with Microcontrollers

- Excellent knowledge of communication protocol such as TCP/IP, RS-232, RS-485, USB, WIFI, MODBUS and Bluetooth.

- Familiar with 51, ARM, RISC series micro-controller is a plus.

- Familiar with x86 architecture

- Experience in software unit testing, test case design and test plan creation.

- Experience in working with commercial teams, customers, partner or suppliers to deliver results

- Strong experience on product development like system definition, system analysis, debugging etc.

- Skills in problem solving, critical thinking, and clear communication

- Have good knowledge of English on both written and verbal, excellent communicational skills

- Plus if can use Configuration tool on SVN, GITS and Embedded operating system like open RTOS, (Linux optional)
