Position Scope:

This role is responsible for implementing the corporate product compliance initiatives within the Grainger Global Sourcing (GGS) – China business. The individual in this role will lead GGS – China product compliance activity for new product introduction, line reviews and product auditing processes.  This role is expected to act as the product compliance subject matter expert.

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

·        Lead product compliance activities for GGS-China   

·        Identify and establish processes to drive product compliance for Grainger branded products in accordance to regulatory, statutory, and industry requirements for targeted markets (e.g. North America, UK, EU, etc.).

·        Enforce regulatory requirements and product compliance internal policies. 

·        Participate as a member of the engineering team; build knowledge and relationships within the engineering team.

·        Be an effective communicator (Local language and English).

·        Minimal oversight and initiative required (e.g. must be a self-starter).  

·        Work cross functionally to integrate product compliance initiatives seamlessly into business operational functions.

·        Recommend course of action in response to compliance failures.

·        Develop risk minimization strategies for new and existing compliance/regulations in conjunction with EH&S, legal, and brand management. Collect and analyze functional & process performance data to identify improvement opportunities. Stay current regarding all new and emerging global agency and environmental product requirements and implement compliance action plans accordingly

 

Education & Experience:

·        Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline required.

·        Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred. 

·        5+ years industry experience with product compliance programs

·        3+ years of manager experience

·        In-depth knowledge of processes and technical standards for 3rd party test agencies such as UL, CSA, NOM, VDE, TUV, Intertek, etc.

·        Experience and knowledgeable about US and EU product regulations such as CE, CPSC, NSF, EPA, NFPA, OSHA, CFR, EU directive, CE, CCC, etc.

·        Be an effective communicator (Local language and English) and leader

·        Self-starter with minimal need for oversight or manager presence

·        Demonstrated capability of developing and implementing a personal development plan focused on reinforcing strengths, overcoming weaknesses

·        Develop a balance of new skills applicable to engineering and GGS business activities

·        Ability to apply business acumen to Compliance Strategy

·        Able to educate engineering and GGS team regarding business impacts of compliance programs  

·        Ability to quickly and effectively develop new strategies based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment for meeting changing goals and objectives.

·        Strong communication skills, willingness to work in a team environment and a keen sense of urgency in completing tasks

·        Proven ability to procure, read, understands, and interprets technical reports, industry standards, specifications, test data, patents, statutory and regulatory law and be able to translate, technical information into useful laymen’s terms.
