Environment Specialist (Supply Chain)

We are looking for an Environment Specialist to join our Responsible Sourcing team.

The Responsible Sourcing function sits within the Global Supply Chain business unit.  Our vision is to achieve agile, efficient and seamless sourcing and supply chain operations in partnership with world-class manufacturers. The goal of Global Supply Chain is to increase profitability through securing consistent quality performance within stable and resilient supply chain operations.  Through transparent performance measurement, we enable data-driven decisions to create competitive advantage.  We collaborate with other Business Units in BESTSELLER, working to support and deliver on brand purchasing and sales strategies, and our Fashion FWD Sustainability Strategy.

The Responsible Sourcing team delivers on this through:

• Performing risk assessments, setting policies, aligning procedures, leading projects and setting strategic direction on chemical, environmental, social & labour management across the global supply chain;
• Supporting the global chemical, environmental, social & labour teams to implement strategies and improvement programmes throughout the supply chain;
• Securing sourcing regions and managing risks through effective stakeholder engagement and collaboration, including brands, suppliers, regional and local authorities, employer associations, membership organisations, MSI’s, NGOs and unions;
• Delivering transparency to factory and supplier performance across our areas of responsibility, continuously developing effective measurement tools, driving action and improvements.

About the position

We require a team player with a solid knowledge of supply chain environmental management in the apparel industry.  As part of a global environment team, you will navigate a large, multi-brand fashion company and a complex international supply chain to enable BESTSELLER to meet environmental management minimum standards and sustainability targets across both manufacturing sites and products.   In this role you will lead our supply chain environment strategy, and be a key link between corporate strategy on climate, water and waste and our regional environment implementation.  You will work collaboratively with our global environment team and lead the effective translation of corporate targets into regional supply chain strategies, support the global team, and track progress towards our goals.  

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

? Set policies and operational guidelines to secure BESTSELLER minimum requirements and to achieve environmental sustainability targets in our global supply chain

? Ensure alignment and integration of BESTSELLER policies, industry standards and sustainability commitments into BESTSELLER supplier expectations and supply chain management programmes

? Maintain and update policies and guidelines related to environmental management expectations in manufacturing sites in close dialogue with regional Environment Managers.

? Translate corporate climate, water and waste targets into strategic supply chain implementation plans

? Support global teams to set and implement regional roadmaps on environmental management (water management, GHG emissions and waste)

? Set clear KPI’s and effective tracking of targets across regions

? Perform environment risk and impact assessments across all  sourcing regions (in collaboration with regional Environment Managers) to ensure our strategy and programmes are addressing risk effectively and having the required level of impact

? Support brands and sourcing offices in development and verification of more sustainable products through supporting the development of, and the implementation and due-diligence on, more sustainable products in line with BESTSELLER ‘FWD Product Framework’

? Represent BESTSELLER at various stakeholder forums and industry initiatives linked to environmental sustainability in the supply chain and align internal workstreams with our external commitments

? Work closely with materials sourcing teams to align supply chain environmental expectations and material sustainability expectations – for smooth operation of our Preferred materials supplier programme.

Workplace: Shanghai (preferred, however we are open to discussion with candidates in other regions).

Qualifications

? Relevant education within environmental engineering, environmental management or sustainability

? 5+ years of experience within the fashion and textile industry and working with sustainability linked to environmental management in the garment industry

? Fluent in both written and spoken English

? Excellent communication skills

Your personal profile

You have a strong background on environmental sustainability in the garment industry, and have excellent communication skills.  You are comfortable working and engaging with many different global stakeholders both internally and externally.

You have experience in setting clear strategic roadmaps and delivering according to targets.  You are able to write and communicate internal policies, and to secure these policies through strong management systems.

You are outgoing and have strong presentation skills - both verbally and in writing. You can translate complex knowledge and information to make it understandable and relevant to a variety of stakeholders from different cultural and professional backgrounds.  You have a strategic mindset and can support and drive the development of our environmental management programme across the global supply chain.
