Position Overview
To support the realization of the Versatics growth strategy in the Asia Pacific region, Hexion is hiring a Technical Service Specialist. This role will lead technical activities with targeted customer and be a key member in application development projects. She/he needs to plan and drive the execution of Technical Service projects. The role is market focused and requires good presentation skills in English and Chinese for conferences and customer communications. As an important technical interface with polymer and coatings companies, she/he will provide support to customers to increase the penetration of Hexion’s current monomeric building blocks in the Asia Pacific market. Main us of our VeoVa? vinyl ester and Cardura? glycidyl esters is in solvent-borne and water-borne free-radical initiated polymer synthesis for the use in architectural, automotive and industrial protective coatings. There will be significant external interactions and contacts with customers in China and Asia Pacific in general.
Job Responsibilities
- Regular technical service to support business growth by effectively working with sales and business teams
- Pro-actively identify, develop and implement technical concepts/solutions which provide a competitive advantage in the market
- Lead, plan and execute application development activities and experimental programs
- Participate in global technology and application development, through interaction with European and American teams Provide polymer synthesis and paint formulation guidance, and problem-solving support to target customers
- Build strong technical connections with key customers, co-suppliers and end-users
- Identify industry trends
- Key technical interface at conferences and trade shows
Key Requirements
- Master Degree in Polymer or Organic Chemistry with several years of industrial experience in solution and emulsion polymers and applications derived of these polymers (coatings, adhesives, construction chemicals), PhD would be a plus
- 5 years polymer synthesis experience, preferably free-radical initiated (degree dependent)
- Experience in formulating coatings, adhesives, construction chemicals or specialty chemicals is preferred
- Experience in international customer interactions
- Should have high energy with strong initiative and self-motivation
- Excellent inter-personal skills with demonstrated success working with cross-functional teams, including internal and external stakeholders
- Understands and applies project management methodology
- Ability to work in a global team environment
- Strong business acumen and comfortable to travel around Asia
- Excellent communication skills in both English and Chinese
- Good presentation skills
Education Requirements
- An advanced degree in Polymer or Organic chemistry with an expertise in free-radical solution or emulsion polymerization and Coating or Adhesive Science.
Other Requirements
- Person should feel comfortable in an international matrix organization Self-starter Industrial experience in solution and emulsion polymers and coatings derived of these polymers. Experience in scale-up of polymer synthes is a plus
