Plant postdoctoral scientist positions available at Firmenich R&D centre in Shanghai, China.

The corporate R&D division of Firmenich has three centers located in Geneva of Switzerland, Princeton of USA, and Shanghai of China, respectively. Each year, Firmenich invests 10% of the company revenues in its innovation community for discovery, innovation, and product development.

Firmenich R&D centre based in Shanghai was established in 2006. It is currently looking for one talented plant scientists (initially at post-doctoral scientist level for two years with possibilities of being permanent positions) to strengthen its discovery activities in plant secondary metabolism. As a successful applicant, you are expected to use modern molecular and biochemical tools in dissecting and elucidating metabolic pathways in selected plant species and to make important contributions in the discovery and production of novel natural molecules.


Job responsibility:

1. Lead a research project in the area of plant secondary metabolism.
2. Plan and adjust well to meet milestones.
3. Work independently in planning and executing daily experiments.
4. Design and implement effective cloning strategies.
5. Isolate and characterize pathway genes.
6. Work closely together with analytical chemists for metabolic pathway elucidation.
7. Monitor new technology development and their applications to facilitate research progress.

Profile:

1. PhD degree in a relevant discipline.
2. Solid knowledge of molecular biology and excellent skills in gene cloning and functional analyses.
3. Good understanding of metabolic pathways, especially secondary metabolisms in plants.
4. Proven excellent hands-on experiences with modern bioinformatics tools.
5. Curiosity and passion with phytochemistry and plant secondary metabolism.
6. Proven time management skills.
7. Good problem-solving abilities.
8. Excellent team-working and collaborative spirit with good inter-personal skills.
9. Fluent in English.
