ROLES:
1) Drives innovation process for new products, new applications and new application technologies according to the Asia-derived fiber bonding EDF innovation strategy in close cooperation with all units involved.
2) Ensures that new products fulfil all technical requirements for launch. Coordinates budgeting for innovation activities.
3) Make use of new polymer platform technologies according to the UBs innovation strategies.
4) Ensures the achievement of synthesis related deliverables within the agreed time and budget and might involve other functions for execution of subtasks

Responsibilities

3)IP management/documentation for Asia / Pacific
4)Performance, starting point formulation, documentation and specification of new products/new applications/new application technologies
5)Global alignment of A-EDA R&D activities (Gate 2/3)
6)Scale-up of new products
7)Custodian of BASF´s Innovation and PhaseGate Process within ED
8) Manages lab technicians and lab operation

Main Tasks
1)Drives the idea finding & evaluation process in cooperation with all relevant functions and derives proposals for R&D projects
2)Defines and reasons innovation-budget in coordination with marketing on the basis of innovation strategy
3)Reviews patent/literature concerning application technology, give input to the global patent portfolio. Protect polymer technology know-how by patents.
4)Sets up technical part of business case for R&D projects.
5)Ensures screening and evaluation of competitor products and patents for designated product lines in close cooperation with local and regional marketing and sales team.
6)Evaluates new polymers with appropriate test methods and derives/recommends further improvement of polymer properties with regard to project goals. Translate application performance requirements into chemical solutions and synthesize new polymers in lab and pilot plant
7)Defines and constantly reviews test methods and test formulations during product development.
8)Develops production manufacturing recipes (steering of scale-up)
9)Ensures documentation of product development and elaborate literature necessary for market introduction of new products including starting point formulation
10)Defines physical specification of new product
11)Releases new products during the production transfer
12)Ensures implementation and execution of innovation chain/phase gate process
13)Ensures that legislative and regulatory requirements are met
14) Coordinates lab resources/facilities, inlcuding equipment purchase and maintenance
15) Keeps lab operation complying with BASF EHS regulation and implementation in 5S way
16) Guides, trains and appraises subordinates.

Qualification Requirements
Education: PhD in chemistry or polymer materials.
Working experience: More than 2 years experience in an R&D organisation for polymer development, emulsion polymerization for fiber bonding experience is preferred.
Technical and professional knowledge: Intimate knowledge of polymer chemistry.
Ability to manage budgets.
Understanding of the markets needs in regards to products and innovation in which the business is active.
Ability to develop the competency of subordinates.
