Overall Purpose of Job:
Commodity Manager is part of the Purchasing Department. The Prime role of the Commodity Manager is to be responsible for developing and implementing the most beneficial type of sourcing agreements for the specific commodities required by TRW Automotive, and to assist in the development of a network of best practice suppliers for the range of sourcing agreements.
Major Responsibilities:
? To be accountable for the smooth and effective interaction between Purchasing and all other functions to obtain the optimum service for the business.
? To make a full and effective contribution to the formulation of coherent commodity strategies for the business.
? To help achieve objectives in support of the Operating Plan, as well as contribute to the development, monitoring and achievement of annual budgets.
? To participate as the functional representative of Purchasing in multi- functional.
? Teams on development issues such as “make vs. buy” and new product introduction in close co-operation with the sites.
? To lead multi-functional cost improvement teams.
? To identify regional commodity sourcing opportunities.
? To develop suppliers to achieve ? Best Practice ? in cost, quality, service and delivery.
? To manage commodity related outsourcing projects, in Asia Pacific.
? To lead and organize multi-functional teams to carry out supplier reviews.
? To play a leading role in establishing and maintaining legally binding contracts and purchasing agreements for the commodities.
? To contribute to projects and agreements with other purchasing and material departments, within TRW, in order to benefit from opportunities of synergy where appropriate.
? To co-ordinate the involvement of key suppliers at the earliest advantageous stage in the product development process.
? To manage the monitoring and measuring of supplier performance.
? Responsible for securing continuous improvement in supplier performance.
? To develop and maintain systems and procedures to support the sourcing function.
? To effectively use information from other relevant areas, when conducting purchasing agreements and reaching purchasing decisions as a means of reducing total acquisition costs of material.
? To determine parts to be sourced with suppliers.
? Responsible for cost analysis of new technology.
Key Competencies:
? Must be mobile and willing to travel frequently.
? The Commodity Manager would be expected to have developed the range of skills identified for the Purchasing Professional and also,
? Team Leadership, good interpersonal skills.
? Selecting & Developing People.
? Fluency in English and another language, other than native language is preferable.
? (Good oral and written)
? Planning.
? A broader understanding of the nature of supply market structures.
? Awareness of the nature of business / corporate strategy and a much greater understanding of the appropriateness of different sourcing strategies.
? A more detailed understanding of the Operating Plan framework within the business, together with the key success factors operating in the business markets.
? Detailed knowledge of commercial and contract law.
? Knowledge of quality concepts and processes such as ISO 9000 and TS16949.
Education and Experience:
Educational: Education to degree level preferably in an Engineering / Technology or Business Commercial subject or:
? To have acquired, or be in the process of acquiring purchasing qualifications.
? A further postgraduate qualification in business studies would be an additional advantage.
Experience: Typically 3 years in a purchasing role. Working in, and preferable leading, multi-functional project teams. Familiar with industrial processes preferably, with automotive background.
Attributes: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
