Overall Purpose of Job:

The SDE SME is for the casting commodity (iron and aluminum) in a technical leadership position covering the AP Product Lines supply base for the development of key, targeted suppliers pre- and/or post-TRW SOP, and for local use / export use castings.

Specifically, the SME is fully knowledgeable for the casting process from understanding / application of international casting technical specifications / materials to drawing reviews, to flow simulations, to tool design, to process design and into series production. Demonstrates excellent trouble-shooting skill sets. The position requires very specific experience in all things iron / aluminum castings. Engagement begins at the supplier integration process (prototypes) to early sourcing and into the APQP-PPAP phase through to TRW serial production plus.

He/she leverages suppliers from the senior leadership to the shopfloor personnel in the effective attainment of a world class casting processes which launch well and is sustainable in series production

Major Responsibilities:

List major areas of responsibilities and accountabilities of the position. Where appropriate, include quantifiable data; i.e., budget dollars.

· Think / Act Strategically - Uses analytical smarts along with creative thinking for supplier development plans to prevent problems and as needed to solve difficult technical casting problems. He/she sees the big picture in understanding casting processes while considering TRW business needs and supplier situations when making plans / decisions.

· Builds Organizational Capability - Has the ability to assess casting (aluminium / iron) suppliers for tool design, and process capabilities with ultimate gap closure plans to address weaknesses not only for targeted casting suppliers, but also individual SDEs to leverage their learning curves along side the SME. Raises the supplier's performance bar by creating, promoting and sustaining a performance culture.

· Get Results - Delivers on-time, on-quality performance at every stage from prototype samples to OTS samples through the APQP phases by the completion of a comprehensive supplier development plan customized for each supplier's deficiencies followed by effective deployment of the "plan".

· Subject-Matter Expert - Considered the go to person for the casting commodity with the ability to quickly gain and/or effective utilize tools / methods in getting results.

· Management Support - Coordinates SDE-AP Product Line casting supply base as assigned including crisis management situations and demonstrates leadership traits / skills in lead problem resolution.

· Other Key Responsibilities -

o Support systemic improvement across the AP casting supply base.

o Leads the development / advancement of the SDE Global Commodity Cultivation Team toolbox policies, procedures and deployment for the casting commodity.

o This position will require frequent visits and stays to assigned casting supplier locations in the AP region for pre-sourcing evaluations, APQP-PPAP assessments / problem resolution and lead crisis management situations.

o Leads / supports Purchasing Casting Commodity in establishing a sound AP strategy sourcing via professional, thorough recommendations in guiding the correct strategy.

o Participate in Quality, Company Staff and Product Line meetings as requested; representing SDE for casting specific discussions from pre-sourcing technical reviews, sourcing decisions and problem resolutions.

· Technical Skills / Knowledge / Hands-On Experience

- A full working knowledge for casting process development from drawing assessment, tool design, process design and qualification. Demonstrated results through hands-on experience from the shopfloor to the boardroom.

- Able to take difficult problems and boil-it down to the key, right steps to take for resolution.

· People Skills

- The ability to influence others in doing what at first may seem unnatural or out of their comfort zone as the status quo appears to be okay. Must be able to demonstrate the value-add proposition in terms of financial gain.

· Manufacturing Process Experience.

- Truly the subject matter expert of casting design / manufacturing processes for iron sand / investment casting and high pressure / gravity aluminium processes including secondary machining experience.

· Knowledge/ Experience with the following disciplines:

-Technical problem solving, lean manufacturing, worldwide casting technical specifications, international standards and state-of-the-art casting processes.

· Excellent Communication Skills

- Efficient PC computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, etc.)

- Very good verbal and written communication skill sets

- Ability to alternate from the lead to the team member role as situations warrant

- Demonstrated presentation skills in convinces others to adopt ideas and change

- Ability to achieve continuous improvement from supplier/internal TRW

Education and Experience:

Educational: Bachelor degree within Mechanical / Industrial Engineering, required. MBA or relevant post-graduate studies preferred.

Experience: Minimum 20+ years experience from a casting (iron / aluminum) environment, in a technical engineering manufacturing role. Automotive supply base experience desired. Previous group-leader / supervision/ management experience preferred. Solid, world class casting experience is a must with a preference for both aluminum and iron cast processes.
