JOB SPECIFICATION
JOB TITLE Firmware Engineer

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The jobholder is responsible for sustaining and development of Software for embedded realtime systems and related engineering tools for controlling the Software running under Windows. Supported systems range from a legacy design based on the Z80 processor family to a recent platform based on ARM processors. This work is partially conducted in close collaboration with the Design Centre in The systems are banking automation machines with a distributed electronics. The latest generation is running realtime operating systems and linux systems. Those systems should be maintained and extended.Support of the manufacturing and quality testing is essential, scripts written in Ruby and Python should be adopted to support efficiency increase in those areas.
The team is in particular responsible to support New Product Introduction (NPI) and Engineering Change Management in cooperation with Manufacturing Engineering. Also expected is despite the close collaboration with Talaris Engineering sites in Europe the link to operational functions, in particular Purchasing and Quality. Overall aim is to support a seamless supply of Talaris products and a continuous improvement of product cost, functionality and quality.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
§ Execution of tasks related to
Maintenance of SW in Assembler/C on the legacy systems
Development and maintenance of SW code in C++ / CLI on the latest systems
Adaptation of Ruby and Python Scripts used to control the machines with focus on the test fixtures in the production line
Communication and synchronisation activities with the design centre in Switzerland
Interaction and collaboration with the electronics development
Adoption of FPGA code in VHDL
Machine fault debugging
Adopt and use Ruby script to test the boards and support machine debugging
Implementation of selected product customisation requests assigned to the China team - extending the product specification for new customers
Support for New Product Introduction (design adaptation supporting manufacturability, change control, fault analysis etc.) in cooperation with Manufacturing Engineering
Engineering change management and Software version control
§ Support implementation of engineering changes in manufacturing (consultation, analysis)
§ Review of manufacturing, quality and product conformance issues as well as test results
§ Constant improvement of firmware skills / know-how
PERSON SPECIFICATION AND CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING
§ Graduated in electrical/electronics or software engineering or equivalent degree
§ At least 3 years working experience with at least one year in electronics design or highly qualified graduates with the willingness to learn complex contexts quickly
§ Excellent C, C++, CLI .NET programming skills, preferably on distributed embedded real time systems, a level of assembler programming experience
§ Knowledge of communication protocols like Ethernet, CAN, USB
§ Programming skills in VHDL, Python and Ruby are a plus
§ Preferably at least one year working experience in western country (e.g. Europe, US, Canada, Australia), degree from western university or equivalent experience
§ Fluent in written and spoken English
§ Strong track record on carrying out software design and debugging in complex mechatronics environments
§ Experienced in international working environment and familiar with local manufacturing / testing requirements
